Many years ago I bought a set of 5 CDs: Billboard’s top hits from the 70’s. Each CD contains the top ten hit of the year. I kind of listened to it a couple of times and put it away. About 5 years ago, when we were living in Family Student Housing at UCSC, I heard my hubby upstairs just cracking up. Wondering what he was laughing at, I went upstairs and found that he had found this stash of CDs and he was listening to the songs and laughing at thier utter corniness. I mean, they are either really manic – from the disco scene, or they are just so god damn depressing that you want to just take a gun and shoot yourself in the head. And then there are songs like “Undercover Angel”:
“Undercover Angel, Midnight fantasy, I’ve never had a dream that made sweet love to me”
This is the music that we grew up on! Oh.My.God. So we just sat around, listening to this music and laughed until we cried.Well, the other day I dug out these CDS and put them on the IPod and decided to have some fun listening to them this morning. And I’ve got to say, “All By Myself” has to be the most depressing song of all time.
