Bush’s Brain

Books, Music, Art, Movies

I thought I would post a little something about a little documentary that I watched over the holiday weekend. Bush’s Brain. Based on the book, Bush’s Brain. It’s about Karl Rove. It was a fairly short documentary that presented a biography about Rove, and then talked about how he has helped Bush rise to the White House. Rove has been working for the Bushs for quite a number of years. He began working for Daddy Bush, and then moved on to Shrub. I knitted during most of the film, so I don’t remember the fine details. But I did come away from this film with an even greater belief that Rove is evil. “Win, no matter what the cost” is his mantra. In many cases the cost has been defmation of the character of a few Viet Nam war heroes. In other cases he has ruined lives and careers. Just so he can win. There is no question that the man is brilliant. He knows exactly what he is doing. And this is precisely why he is so evil.

Watching this reminded me of another movie that I watched a couple of weeks ago, a documentary about Dietrich Bonhoeffer (called Bonhoeffer). He was a theologian who, along with other family members, created a conspiracy to asassinate Hilter. In the film, they showed the Third Riech’s “minister of propaganda” giving a speech and a light went on in my head. That is what Rove is. He’s America’s Minister of Propaganda.

Both of these films are really good and I highly recommend them both. Bonhoeffer was really interesting because it raised some interesting ethical questions…For example, is one still a Christian if the go against the Ten Comanments and kill, even if it is Hitler? Food for thought….
