Go on, Michael.

Guess what I just bought for 5 bucks at Hastings? The Lost Boys! I love this movie. I saw it for the first time in the theater. When was that? 1987? 1988? I was still living in Spokane. I remember it was summer. Probably this time of year. I remember walking out of the theater exhilarated. I loved it. The soundtrack was awesome! The story was great! The actors were hot :)! The perfect summer movie for a 18 or 19 year old girl. I loved the soundtrack. I bought it and listened to it all summer.

And then, a couple of years later I moved to San Jose (after a year in New York as a Nanny). The Lost Boys was all but forgotten. Until one night when I went out with some friends. We went to the house of one of the people I was with. He lived in Santa Cruz and he was a musician. As we all got to talking it came out that his band was one of the bands on the Lost Boys soundtrack! I thought that was so cool! Since the movie was filmed in Santa Cruz they put a local band’s song on the soundtrack.

Then I moved to Santa Cruz a few years later. On a whim Raf and I decided to rent Lost Boys. For old times sake, you know? We had fun watching it since we lived in the town that it was filmed. But the most amazing thing was the discovery that the house that the family lived in in the film was our at our beloved Pogonip! Pogonip is a Santa Cruz city park that is amazing. It has tons of hiking trails and it’s so beautiful. There are lots of pictures of that park on this blog. It was our go-to hiking place. There are lots of stories there. I don’t know what they all are, but they are there. There is an abandoned country club building there that has always intrigued me. I imaginedfancy parties there in the 1920s. Next to the country club is a pool that my husband thinks is the famed Buena Vista secret skate spot. And to learn that this abandoned country club (with so many other ghost stories attached to it) is the house that the family lived in in Lost Boys? Awesome.

I showed Raf the movie that I just bought and I could see all of the Santa Cruz memories coming back. And, indeed, for the last hour we have been talking about memories and how much we miss it.

Dammit! I’m sick of letting this blog go. I love this blog. I don’t want it to fall into obscurity! So to give myself a jump start I am going to do a Meme that was posted on Cathi’s blog, even though she didn’t tag me :). Here it goes:

2. 4 letter word: Moon

3. Street: Monroe (it’s a street here in Spokane)

So there you go. I won’t tag anyone, but if you want to do it go for it!

For me? A Godsend

Have you downloaded the newest incarnation of the Firefox web browser? Among it’s many updates, there is a spell checker! Right there built into the browser! When you are typing something into a form (like I am doing right now) a red line will appear underneath words that are misspelled (it just happened when I typed “spellchecker” instead of “spell checker.”). How perfect is this for me? I’m the queen of misspellings. But no more! Yay!
