My Summer playlist. So far.

Books, Music, Art, Movies

This seems to be a great summer for music so far! Many of my favorite bands have new albums coming out (or are out) so I’m stoked. And I’m discovering some new bands that I didn’t know about. Here’s what’s on my playlist so far, in random order:

  1. Party Like a Rock Star. Shop Boyz.I know. It’s kind of embarrassing. But I can’t help it. I love this song! It’s catchy.
  2. Icky Thump. White Stripes
White Stripes is one of my favorite bands and they are one that just came out with a new album. We listened to it a couple of weeks ago at my brother’s b-day party. It has a kind of psychedelic rock thing going on. This song is a good example of what you will find on the album. I like it.

  3. Dashboard. Modest Mouse.
This one has been out for awhile, I think. But it’s a great summer song. It instantly makes me want to dance. Modest Mouse makes a great feel-good song.

  4. Cupids Chokehold. Gym Class Heroes.
Okay, this is another potentially embarrassing one. Stupidest lyrics ever. Seriously:

I mean she even cooks me pancakes, and Alka-Seltzer when my tummy aches.
If that ain’t love then I don’t know what love is.

And it doesn’t get much better than that. But God Damn it! It’s a catchy, fun song!

  5. Far Behind. Social Distortion.
Dude! It’s new Social D! Yay! It’s a nice little ditty about cutting loose the things that drag you down. It’s a song about Freedom:

With friends like you, who needs enemies?
you ain’t right, you ain’t never gonna be,
you’re out of the car, I’m afraid you’ve been declined.
you shake my hand, while you’re pissing on my leg
I’m cuttin you loose, I don’t need this misery
your soul is toxic, you ain’t no friend of mine.

    I’m leaving you far behind….

As only a punk band can express it.

  6. Hang me up to dry. Cold War Kids.
This may be my favorite song so far. I first heard it on our trip to Portland in May. It’s different. It’s kind of dark. I even downloaded the video.

  7. Sick Sick Sick. Queens of the Stone Age.
I like it. It rocks. In typical QOTSA fashion.

  8. Hey there Delilah. Plain White Ts.
The first time I heard this song all the way through I cried. It’s one of those sad, sweet songs.

  9. Heinrich Maneuver. Interpol.

I  Interpol. I’m so stoked that they have a new album coming out. This is the first song from the album and it is good.

What are you listening to this summer?

  1. Well I’m old, so this new hippy music doesn’t get into my iPod…much. However, I’m excited to hear the new White Stripes, though my tastes run to Britpop…if they sound like The Beatles, then I’m there!
