Crafty Monday: I’m hooked!

Craft

The other day a nice lady came into the library wanting to come to my knitting program tomorrow. The only problem was that she wanted to learn how to crochet and I don’t know how. So my colleague, who does know how to crochet (but couldn’t make it to my program) offered to go to the stacks to find some books that she thought would be good beginner books that she could maybe check out and teach herself. She found one called “Kids Crochet” that had excellent pictures and diagrams, and great projects that were very easy. The thing that I particularly liked was that one lesson is taught, like Single Crochet, and then there are a couple of easy projects in which you learn Single Crochet. Then the next section introduces another technique and projects that reinforce that technique.

So anyway, the first project that I made was this Ribbed Scarf (picture on the left). I had some leftover Patons Merino from various projects and cast on about 190 stitches (I think). I love the vertical stripes! However, since this is a kids book, the scarf is a little too short for my taste. If I were to make another one I’d cast on more stitches.

The second thing that I made is the first project in the book, the Neck Cozy. This is basically a large swatch of Single Crochet made with super bulky yarn. I specifically used Rowan Big Wool. I got the button from my LYS and I love it. I will definitely use it this winter. For this I chained about 15 instead of the required 8. I ended up with 13 stitches at the end so I’m not sure what happened there but oh well.

I really had fun making these! They worked up very fast, which is a bonus. I’m working on some other easy projects in the book then I will tackle some of the projects in the Stitch-n-Bitch Crochet: Happy Hooker.

Happy Monday!

At the art show

My mom, hubby, and I had our stuff in a little art show last weekend called “Artists Loose on the Paloose.” We all actually sold something which was such an ego boost! In the picture you can see some of my photos on top, and Raf’s paintings on the table and hanging below my photographs.

How are things going with you? Good I hope. Me? I’m here. I’m insanely busy, but I’m here. I have the day off and am immesely enjoying a day all to myself! I taught myself how to crochet yesterday so I’ve been working on a scarf which will probably be done today. I’ll show it to you in my Crafty Monday post if I can get my act together to get a picture uploaded 🙂

Have a great weekend everyone!

Crafty Monday: Chickami Tank

Craft

I made another Chickami! Why, you ask? I’ll tell you!

I was going through my shelves of sweaters, doing my yearly washing and putting away of the wintery ones, when I came across my Apricot Jacket. Remember that thing? I have a love/hate relationship with it. I absolutely adored knitting it. But I hated the final product. I hated the way it fit on me. And so I put it in my closet and never looked at it again. Until a few weeks ago.

An idea occurred to me. I had some of the yarn from that project left over. Why not make a tank top to go underneath it? See, the biggest problem with the sweater was the armholes. I messed up the seaming because they are kind of tight. So any shirt I wear under it will bunch up weirdly.

So I dug out the pattern and cast on. About halfway through I realized I wouldn’t have enough yarn. So I thought I’d try the wide stripes with some other Cotton-Ease color in my stash. As I was working on my second green stripe I ran out so the rest was knit with blue.

I actually love the way it turned out! And guess what? It looks great with the sweater! I even wore it last week and absolutely loved the combo! I am wearing the outfit tomorrow so I will get a shot of the two together so you can see.

I’m Stoked! A sad knitting story with a happy ending :).
