Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    Olympia

Here is another photo from the SCOPES meetup in Olympia in June. Gosh, I love this camera. I need to buy more film for it so I can give it more love.

  • September Postcard Swap!

    September Postcard Swap!

    September 2, 2015

The September postcard swap is now live! To sign up – fill out the form below.

A few people have asked: “do I have to sign up more than once?” The answer is, “yes.” I don’t have a way to generate a new swap each month using the names from previous months so you will have to sign up for each month individually. This can be a good thing because what if you want to take a break from exchanging postcards? You simply just don’t sign up for the month.

This month’s postcard, featured above, comes from my Spokane Flickr pal, Michael Crites. I have known Michael for a damn long time. Probably around 8 years? Almost too many to count. He’s a very talented photographer and I was very delighted to receive a postcard from him this month. You can check out his work on his Facebook page.

I have to say, I am really enjoying this swap very much. I really enjoy sending out cards and getting one each month makes my day. I have even made up a little scrap book to collect them in. I had fun collaging the cover with stamps received on letters from all over the world. I am kind of in love with the postmarks, as well. I have special stamps that I buy for the postcards I send out. Currently I am using Jimi Hendrix stamps. The Welches, Oregon uses a really cool looking postmark. This might sound weird, but I am tempted to send myself a letter so I can have my very own Jimi Hendrix stamp with a Welches postmark. Anyway, here the cover of my little notebook. I am using a Moleskine Kraft Folio for this. I’ll share more of it when I get stuff inside.

And, last but not least, here is the signup form! If you have questions, ask in the comments. Happy swapping!

The September postcard swap is now closed. To be notified of future swaps fill out the form below.

Timberline Lodge – Mt Hood, Oregon.

    August 31, 2015

A new post is up on Pinhole Obscura . It is about Timberline Lodge! One of my favorite places.

    Moni's avatarPinhole Obscura

You may or may not know this, but the very first post on this blog was about Timberline Lodge. It’s kind of a short and sweet post, so I thought it deserved revisiting. It is very close to home and I visit often, but not often enough.

The second time I was here (I don’t remember the first time)  It was a beautiful, clear, summer day in late August. Sitting on the patio we could see Mt Jefferson. The woman sitting at the table next to us said to her son, “I can’t believe a place this beautiful exists.”

    Here are some random factoids.

    • It is the location of one of my favorite moments
    • The Pacific Crest trail passes by it and so it is often the resting spot of many weary backpackers.
    • It was used for the exterior shots of the film, The Shining.

    Olympia

In June I met up with several PNW pinhole photographers in Olympia WA. We descended on the state capital with our lensless cameras and lots of fun was had by all. I felt like giving my Zero 45 some love, so I brought a few sheets of Ilford Delta 100. This was the first time using this film. I like it much better than Arista.edu 100. I kind of wish I didn’t because, damn. That Arista has got a nice price.

For this shot I laid them camera on the ground, hole up, and opened the shutter for 20 minutes. The ceiling of this building is beautiful.
