Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    Step into the light

Fifty-four years lighting up the sky.
A quivering leap smashes a billion worlds.
    Hah!
    Entire body looks for nothing.
Living, I plunge into Yellow Springs.

    geeky photo bits:
This was taken with my Zero 45 pinhole camera using the 25mm configuration. I used Arista.edu 100.

The poem is Dogen’s death poem. I read it for the first time the other day and I love it. I wrote my own “death poem” that I will share on Monday. (I am not planning on dying anytime soon, it was just a writing exercise).

  • Mandala

    My Term Student Mandala

I went through a Term Student program at my Sangha this past Fall. This is, simply, a period of time when you focus a bit more intensely on your practice.

I learned so much about myself during this time. I will blog more about it – if I can find the words to say about it. Much of what I learned is still percolating inside of me.

On the last retreat our teacher had us draw a mandala that represented what we learned during this time. The photo above is what I drew. Honestly, it is kind of hard to express in words what it all means. I did have explain my mandala as part of the retreat , but I had a hard time finding the words for it. Drawing it came from a different part of myself, the part of myself that doesn’t use language to communicate.

As I drew this particular mandala I felt a familiarity.

    img002-2

I found this in my desk. It’s the etching that I made at the Rembrandt House museum in Amsterdam. I thought I’d scan it and use it for the icon thingy for my blog.

I have been doing some drawing lately and I think this was the beginning of that interest. Sort of, I have always my whole life been interested in drawing but the interest comes and goes. I am currently riding a wave of interest and I think this day was the beginning of this current wave.

I am not very talented at drawing but you’ve got to start somewhere! 🙂

    Haystack Rock 1

Alright. New Year, new motivation. One of my goals this year is to post more on Blatherskite. So Fridays will be photoblog day, as been my tradition in the past.

Another thing I’m trying to motivate myself into is starting another sheet-a-day project. Two days into the year and I can’t bring myself to do it. Maybe posting this will help. Here is one from my last sheet a day project – a pinhole photo of Haystack rock.

  • One Second A Day – 2014

    January 1, 2015

Here is my One Second A Day video for 2014! What a wonderful year.

I meant to post this last night but doing the final edits took forever and eventually I fell asleep on the couch as I waited for it to upload to Youtube. Raf woke me up at midnight so we could ring in the new year. Typical New Years Eve for us. 🙂

Here’s to a great 2015. Happy new year, everyone!

Here is my 2013 video and  some info on how I put it together.
