Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

Last night was was searching the intertubes for my ukulele pocket song: “Tonight You Belong To Me.” I was in the mood to practice but I’d forgotten the words! To my utter and complete delight, I came upon this little gem:

I love the way they interact with each other. You can tell that they are soul mates.

  • the saddest poem

    the saddest poem

    January 30, 2014

I read this beautiful poem by Pablo Neruda a month ago and I can’t stop thinking about it. It reminds me of the Pantoum form. It isn’t but the rhythm of it reminds me of it. It has inspired me to write more pantoums, which I may  or may not share at some point in the future.

    The Saddest Poem
I can write the saddest poem of all tonight.

Write, for instance: “The night is full of stars,
and the stars, blue, shiver in the distance.”

The night wind whirls in the sky and sings.

I can write the saddest poem of all tonight.
I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.

On nights like this, I held her in my arms.
I kissed her so many times under the infinite sky.

She loved me, sometimes I loved her.
How could I not have loved her large, still eyes?

I can write the saddest poem of all tonight.
To think I don’t have her. To feel that I’ve lost her.

To hear the immense night, more immense without her.
And the poem falls to the soul as dew to grass.

What does it matter that my love couldn’t keep her.
The night is full of stars and she is not with me.

That’s all. Far away, someone sings. Far away.
My soul is lost without her.

As if to bring her near, my eyes search for her.
My heart searches for her and she is not with me.

The same night that whitens the same trees.
We, we who were, we are the same no longer.

I no longer love her, true, but how much I loved her.
My voice searched the wind to touch her ear.

Someone else’s. She will be someone else’s. As she once
    belonged to my kisses.
Her voice, her light body. Her infinite eyes.

I no longer love her, true, but perhaps I love her.
Love is so short and oblivion so long.

Because on nights like this I held her in my arms,
my soul is lost without her.

Although this may be the last pain she causes me,
and this may be the last poem I write for her.

  • Let’s restart this thing, shall we?

    January 29, 2014

Well hello there, Blatherskite. I seem to have neglecting you lately. I am very sorry about that. I have missed you.

There is so much that has been going on! I moved my photography blog over to Squarespace. It even has it’s own domain: monismithphoto.com. Go have a look and let me know what you think. I am open to any and all feedback. Eventually I will add a subscription service so you can subscribe via email. I am still working on that!

I am kind of being all ninja-photographer about this but I made a Facebook page for my photography stuff. You can like me on Facebook if you wish. Yep.  I thought it would be a good way to share all of the things I am doing on other blogs and whatnot in one place.

The postcard swap is coming along! And it’s really fun! If you are interested in joining us sign up on Elfster for the February swap! I will post more about that soon.

Here is a song I heard this morning that made me smile.

Good lord. This song brings back memories. It reminds me of the time I saw the Dead Milkmen at The Edge in Palo Alto, CA. Mojo Nixon opened for them. It was epic.

So there you go. A CraftyMoni update for you. I hope all is well for you in your corner of the world, whoever may be reading this.

  • Raspberries in the garden on a hot summer day

Raspberries in the garden on a hot summer day

    January 18, 2014

I downloaded WordPress’s free e-book 365 writing prompts and thought it would be fun to blog some of the things that I write from that book. Here is the entry for Jan 18th.

    Free Association:
Write down the first words that come to mind when we say ….home…soil…rain. Use those words in the title of your post.

The first thing that comes  to mind was my dad’s garden at my childhood home. In my mind this garden was huge because I was a small child when I lived there. My three siblings and I were enlisted to work in it over the summer pulling weeds. I didn’t like the work and complained, as children do. But I have very strong memories of that soil, digging in it, running my hands through it.

Rain played no part in this, unfortunately. The Pacific Northwest is infamous for it’s rain. However there is also high desert in the Pacific Northwest on the Eastern part of Washington and Oregon. This is where I grew up. Summers were hot and very dry. The soil was dry and we spent a good deal of time using sprinklers (which I also remember running through to cool off).

For some reason this particular moment stands out from all of the others. I think about it all the time:
I am 6 or 7 years old. It is a hot summer day and I am alone in the garden. I am standing in the raspberry bushes and I am eating every raspberry that I can find on the bush and enjoying them immensely. It wasn’t just the raspberries though. It was enjoying the solitude. I am not sure if anyone even knew where I was. I might have been hiding. I think I liked that I could hide away in the raspberry bush and enjoy eating them in complete solitude for a moment. I had this place to myself and I was happy.

  • Camera for sale – Kodak Retina ia

Camera for sale – Kodak Retina ia

    January 16, 2014

I want to buy a large format pinhole camera – er, de-clutter my camera closet. So I am going to sell some cameras that I don’t use. Before I offer them I will test them out as part of the 52 rolls challenge.

This past week I ran a roll of Fuji 200 through my Kodak Retina ia.  It was a gift from some friends who saw it at a flea market. It’s a beautiful little camera but I didn’t enjoy using it. I have been spoiled by the simplicity of pinhole photography. So I thought I would sell it. here are some photos. It’s in great shape! The viewfinder is a little dirty but that’s all that is wrong with it.

I am selling it for $50 plus shipping.

As I mentioned, I tested it out this past week and the lens on it is fabulous. It takes great photos. Here are some of the shots that I took:
