Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

  • Weekly Photo Challenge: Thankful

    November 23, 2012

Yesterday was Thanksgiving. I was thinking about the intention behind this particular holiday and how wonderful that intention is. Ideally we are grateful everyday for the things that we have. But I love that there is a holiday in which we take one day out of the year to be mindful of those things that we are grateful for.

The weekly photo challenge for this week is “Thankful.”

I am thankful for many things, but this year I am especially thankful for my husband. He has been my best friend and partner for 20 years. I am so lucky that I get so spend my life with him. He makes me laugh and he is there for me during my darkest hours, without hesitation. He is the most loving, caring person I know.

I have thought about this the past few days:

Before I met him I didn’t think very highly of myself. I had major self esteem issues. I floundered in school because I didn’t think I was very smart. I don’t know why I felt this way about myself but I did. Then I met Raf.  He treated me like an intellectual equal. We would have fascinating conversations about interesting topics. After awhile I started to actually believe in myself. I went back to school and did very well especially in science and  math (which was a minor miracle). In fact, I did better than “well.” Most of the time I got the best grade in class (messing up the curve and pissing everyone in class off). I was able to go on to, not only get my Bachelor’s degree, but also my Master’s degree. If someone told 18 year old me that I would, someday, have a Master’s degree I would have called them a liar.

He believed in me. And he still does. And for this I am very, very thankful.

  • Annual Thanksgiving Day Waterfall Video

    November 22, 2012

I realized, just now, that I did this last year, too. I am now going to make this a “thing.”

We went for a lovely walk to Wahclella Falls on the Columbia Gorge. Since photos can’t really do it justice (and I suck at waterfall photos) here is a video. It was very loud.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Wayback Wednesday

    November 21, 2012

Easter of 1973. I was 4 years old. Evidence that I am not a morning person and not fit for human consumption first thing. As an adult, I have forced myself to be a morning person. Which means I get myself up at 5:00 am so I can have some alone time (essential to my sanity). My mornings are generally still pretty much the same as in this picture. Grumpy and tired until the coffee kicks in.

    Ubiquitous

A photo from this date, Nov. 20, 2007. The day I got my first DSLR! This was a very special day for me. I don’t look happy in the photo but I was very happy. Ecstatic even.

I have amassed a nice collection of cameras since. One more Digital (Pentax) and several film. My camera collecting days are far from over.

  • My weekend. (Breaking Dawn 2 spoiler ahead)

    November 19, 2012

I had an exciting weekend. I went to a leadership conference. Was there three days. Learned lots. I especially liked the session on conflict manangement. It was taught by the people who wrote a book that I am currently reading: Be Quiet, Be Heard: The Paradox of Persuasion. An excellent book. I highly recommend it.

This morning I ran 5.5 miles (go me!!) during the hour of warm weather and no rain. Then it started pouring and flooding so we went to a movie. The only thing playing at the time was Breaking Dawn Part 2. It was hilariously terrible. The absolutely best part of the movie was the fight scene at the end (which was NOT in the book). I was super stoked that the director decided to add a fight scene since the book failed so miserably by (among other things) not leading up to an epic battle. But, alas, the fight scene ended up being an imagination and the movie ended on a very lame note.

In photography news I received some film in the mail today for a really cool project that is going down. My friend from Aware Of The Void has been getting previously exposed film from various corners of the world and double exposing them while also redscaling the film. The results are fabulous! He invited me to send some film his way and I did but the first attempt didn’t work out so we are going to try this again. As soon as it stops raining I will shoot a couple of rolls and send it along (it might be awhile, this is Oregon after all). I am excited to see the results! I think it is amazing that, because of the internet and social media, this is possible. I am fascinated by the high tech/low tech aspect of the project.

I thought I was getting two but I got 4. Does film multiply in the mail?
