I’ve decided to try to take a picture a day again. I’ve kind of missed doing it. It’s a nice way to do something creative everyday and it is one of those things that gets me into right-brain mode quickly. I’m not going to beat myself up if I miss a day though.
I took this yesterday evening while on a walk in my neighborhood. I live near Hasse’s Greenhouse, a fabulous place to buy plants. I love the entrance to the place. It has a very European feel to it.

This story breaks my heart. It’s one thing to read about what is happening in Iran. It’s another thing to put a face on it. It really amplifies the situation.
I finished the knitting part of this last week but didn’t get it lined until Saturday. I had some fabric in my stash that was going to be used for a circle skirt that I used to line it. I also made pockets on the lining to make it easy to stash my phone and ipod and other little things.
I originally knitted an icord handle but didn’t like how stretchy it was so I bought a handle at JoAnns. I had no idea at all how to put a handle on a knitted item. So I looked through a couple of books and decided to knit a tab that I could sew down onto the purse. I tried it out when I put my wallet, phone, and other stuff into it and took it to the store to go grocery shopping. It pretty much ripped off of the purse as soon as I reached into my purse. So I searched around the internet for ideas. I found this tutorial and decided to try it. It seems to be working just fine, so I’m happy.

It occurs to me that I haven’t posted about what I’m reading for quite a long time and that makes me kind of sad. I’ve been reading books lately that have provoked a strong reaction, good and bad, so I should talk about it.
And without further adieu, here is the the book I read last week:
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith

This is exactly what the title says it is. The story of Pride and Prejudice, exactly the original words of Jane Austen, with a further plot twist thrown in written by Grahame-Smith that involves the Victorian British countryside being overtaken by zombies. In this version of Pride and Prejudice Elizabeth Bennet is a warrior trained in ancient martial arts so that she can kill the zombies that plague her world.
I was able to get about halfway through this book. It was rather entertaining for awhile but then I started getting a little bored with the zombie bits. I was enjoying the “Pride and Prejudice” bits and thinking, “I should just read Pride and Prejudice again.” Then one day last week I was eating lunch and I got to the part where Elizabeth is dining with Charlotte (who is about to turn into an undead) and her new husband. I won’t go into detail here but let’s just say that I was beyond grossed out. I almost couldn’t finish my lunch. I love a good horror story but gratuitous gore is not something I’m really in the mood for right now. Especially while I’m eating. When I relayed the offending scene to Raf, he said that it was a scene lifted directly from the film Army of Darkness. Which I haven’t seen. The author, obviously, was trying to be funny but I just couldn’t get into it.
Several people have mentioned that they find the cover disturbing. I am not at all bothered by the cover. I think it’s actually kind of funny. It’s obviously a satire on the cover for the original book. And, really, that is what we have here. A satire. I am generally a fan of satire but am not a fan of getting grossed out while I’m eating my lunch.
