Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

Went to see it yesterday afternoon to escape the horrible heat. Loved it! I actually liked it better than the book. Actually, can I make a confession? I like all of the movies better than the books. Especially the more recent ones. The screenwriters and directors have done a really good job of distilling the story down to it’s core elements. Rowling tends to kind of drag things out a little bit and I find it a little boring. Not to say that I don’t love the Harry Potter books. Oh no. I plan on reading the next one as soon as I can.

But the movie. So far, this one is the best. It’s not really for little kids, though. The end fight scene with Voldermort is kind of scary, I think. But the movie is really very good. The woman who plays Professor Umbridge totally nails it.

  • Librarians are hip

I got a kick out of this article in the New York Times. Especially this paragraph:

When talk turned to a dance party the group had recently given at a nearby restaurant, their profession became clearer.

“Did you try the special drinks?” Sarah Gentile, 29, asked Jennifer Yao, 31, referring to the colorfully named cocktails.

“I got the Joy of Sex,” Ms. Yao replied. “I thought for sure it was French Women Don’t Get Fat.”

Ms. Yao could be forgiven for being confused: the drink was numbered and the guests had to guess the name. “613.96 C,” said Ms. Yao, cryptically, then apologized: “Sorry if I talk in Dewey.”

That would be the Dewey Decimal System. The groups’ members were librarians. Or, in some cases, guybrarians.

What a fantastic party game! Guessing the name of a drink by the Dewey number!

Oh, and this is just awesome:

. . .Jeff Buckley, a reference librarian at a law firm, who had a

tattoo of the logo from the Federal Depository Library Program peeking out of his black T-shirt sleeve.

Dude. I wish I had thought of that.

Actually, librarians have been hip for years. The world is just now catching on? I know quite a few hip librarians who have been in this business for over 25 years. Partied with a few of em, too. You want a good party? Librarian conference, baby.

    I heart Michael Moore.

And I love it when assholes are put in their place.
