• Well, we went in and signed the inch-thick pile of loan paperwork yesterday, so so far so good! The inspection is scheduled for Thursday. Everything seems to be moving along so far…

Thanks everyone sooo much for all of your well-wishes, good vibes, and prayers! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.

  • The house hunting saga didn’t end on Satuday. I woke up yesterday just really sad about the whole thing. I just cried. I mean, it all just seemed so unfair. I went out to breakfast with my parents (as we always do on Sunday mornings) and they cheered me up so that by the end of the breakfast I was feeling a little better.

Raf and I decided, just for fun, to drive by the house to see if the seller was going through with thier planned open house on Sunday. We would be seriously extra-pissed off if they were. We drove over there and, sure enough, there was an open house! ugh! We were totally disgusted at that point. How could they do this? What, the other offer wasn’t good enough either, so they were going to see what else was out there?

As we were driving home my mom calls me to invite us over for dinner (to cheer us both up). We ranted to her about how they were going through with the open house. So she decides that she is going to jump in her car to go up to the open house, just to kind of see what the hell is going on with these people.

She called me about 45 minutes later and told me that she loved the house. She also said that she talked to the realtor and asked her how much they were offering, just to get a conversation going. She said, $125,000.00, which is what it has always been listed at. The realtor said that there had been three offers on the house and the seller was trying to make up her mind. My mom blurted out, “My daughter is one of the people who made an offer.” God. When she told me that I was totally mortified, but I kept listening. She told me that the Realtor and her had a nice conversation and that my mom said that we really wanted the house and that I work really close and that it would be perfect for us. The realtor said that she would put in a good word for us. The seller was just having a hard time making up her mind. But she would decide today. After I hung up the phone with my mom I thought that maybe we did, in fact, have a chance. Maybe all wasn’t lost after all. I mean, her talking to the realtor couldn’t have made our situation worse than it already was, you know?

About a half an hour later our realtor called to say that the seller decided to go with our offer! It was a little dicey there for a couple of hours while we were waiting to hear back from him. We wanted him to call us when the seller signed the paperwork and it was in the broker’s office, making everything official. I was seriously afraid that we would get sniped again. But, apparently, everything is working out and we are going to get the house after all! (knocking on wood as I type this).

Now we have to pray that the loan all goes through okay and everything. And hope that nothing falls through.

God this is stressing me out!

  • You wouldn’t believe the week we’ve had with our house hunting adventures. I thought last week was discouraging. That was nothing compared to the past couple of days.

The day before yesterday our realtor sent us a couple of houses that had just come on the market. There was one that he sent us that was perfect for us. In the neighborhood that we wanted and in our price range. And it didn’t look like a total shit-hole. So we told him we wanted to see it ASAP. He arranged so that we could take a look at it after work.

We go look at it and as we were walking in the door he said that they have ALREADY gotten an offer on the house, but the sellers were going to counter it because the people wanted the sellers to pay the closing costs. We had a look around and it was perfect. It had everything we needed. It wasn’t too big, it seemed very low maintanence. And it had a two car garage. There were other little amenities, too. It had a hot tub and the yard was landscaped beautifully. We told our realtor that we wanted to make an offer, so that evening, at 9:00pm we went to his office and wrote up the paperwork. We made our offer a little bit better than the other one, and we gave them until noon yesterday to respond.

Well, as it turned out, they accepted our offer!with some minor changes to the date of closing. They wanted to push it up two weeks. Our realtor would swing by my work at six and we would initial the changes and everything would be set. So all day at work I was stoked, telling all the people I work with the good news. I called my mom. Everyone was stoked for me. I get off work, we initial the changes, our realtor tells us what to do next. We are excited. We even drove by the house again to see it our new house.

Se we go home and about a half an hour after we walk in the door our realtor calls to give our bad news. They got a better offer on the house and accepted it. How could they do this? Didn’t they already accept our offer? Well, apparenly there is a loophole that says the offer isn’t accepted until it reaches the office of the selling agent. Our final paperwork didn’t get there until 6:10, the offer was made right at the last minute, at 5:45. In ebay terms, we were sniped.

I’m pissed. Of all the unethical things to do. I understand the whole thing where this person wants to make more money and blah blah blah. I understand that. But when you sign a contract and accept an offer, shouldn’t it be just accepted? Why fuck with somebody’s mind? I feel like I’ve been totally duped, too. Somebody had to know how much we were offering in order to offer more. It just doesn’t seem right at all.

I’m at the point right now where I don’t even feel like buying a house. I can’t go through this emotion frenzy every fucking time I buy a house. It’s too hard. I just want to buy a fucking house. I don’t want mind games played with my head in the process.

We made a counter offer last night, but haven’t heard back from our realtor to see if it’s more than what the other person offered. But to be honest, I have such a bad taste in my mouth now that I don’t even know if I want it. They are totally treating us unethically right out of the gate. Can you imagine down the road? This is so ugly, I can’t even believe it’s happening.

  • No Thanks! The \'70s Punk RebellionMy 13 year old neice’s favorite band is Green Day. This started last summer, I think. I think it’s really cute. When I asked her if she liked any other punk bands she said that she kind of liked (I think she said) Good Charlotte, but didn’t really know of any others. It got me thinking that I should make a nice compilation CD of some good, classic punk.

So I sit down in front of iTunes and start to look for music in my collection. I quickly realized that I, myself, didn’t really have a handle on this genre. Sure, I had the very basics, Six Pistols, The Clash, etc. But I soon realized that I myself needed to be schooled in this musical genere. But how? I put this little “project” on the shelf until I could figure that out.

A few months later I helped an older man, probably in his fifties, at the reference desk. I noticed that he had a boxed CD set in his hands. It had a picture of a little kid in a sailor suit, smoking on the cover. I was instantly intrigued. The set was called, “No Thanks! The Seventies Punk Rebellion.” I looked at the guy and said, “That looks like a good compilation.” He said, “Yes, it is a very good compilation.” Hmm. So he had checked it out before. No need to even think twiice. I placed a hold on it that second. And got it a week later.

Fucking awesome. In the Seventies I was a little one. But my older sister was a teenager and was totally into this music. Listening to these songs really brought back a lot of memories from my childhood, even if I have never heard some of these songs before. Needless to say, I am totally enjoying this compilation.

Left of the Dial: Dispatches from the \'80s UndergroundListening to these songs the past few weeks got me jonesing for a continuation of this into the eighties, and even the nineties. Guess what? there is! A continuation into the eighties, that is. It’s called “Left of the dial: Dispatches from the Eighties Underground.” AND we have it at the library, so I checked it out yesterday. Looking at the song list was like taking a walk through my high-school years. These are the songs that I listened when I was a teenager! I can’t wait to listen to it this weekend.

Update: “Left of the Dial” has my absolute favorite ever song from New Order: Temptation. I’m stoked. I haven’t heard this song since I gave away my copy of Substance. Sigh. Brings back lovely memories…
