Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

The Republican-controlled legislature of South Dakota’s sweeping new law banning abortion in the conservative state also protects rapists’ rights. Now, men who impregnate girls or women against their will – even fathers who rape their daughters – are almost guaranteed to become dads.

I’ve been freaking out the past few days over South Dakota’s abortion ban. I seriously can’t beleive this is happening. They have banned all abortion in that state, even if the woman or child has been raped. RAPED! This is totally inhumane! I am enraged!

I was talking this over with my husband the other night and he and I just came to the sickening realization that Roe Vs. Wade will be overturned. It’s going to be over-fucking-turned. Un-freaking-believable.

Read an interesting article about it here.

  • Impeach Bush

    March 9, 2006

Christie sent me this article yesterday: ABC News: Vermont Towns Endorse Move to Impeach Bush

In five Vermont communities, a centuries-old tradition of residents gathering in town halls to conduct local business became a vehicle to send a message to Washington: Impeach the president.

I find it very interesting that entire towns are voting for impeachment. Clearly, the people want Bush out. Do you remember entire towns voting for Clinton’s impeachment during that whole Lewinsky fiasco? It’s just sad that the people will not get what we want because of the Repug controlled congress. The system is backward.

  • “Gay” Penguin book

    March 8, 2006

Mandrake pointed me to this article:

A children’s book about two male penguins who raise a baby penguin has been moved to the nonfiction section of two public library branches after parents complained it had homosexual undertones.

You can read the article here: ‘Gay’ penguins book frozen out in Missouri libraries

This is kind of a typical dilemma that libraries have to face from time to time. Personally, I think that it should have stayed in the picture book section. But that’s just my opinion. At least they didn’t totally censor the book by taking it out of the collection. I think the difficulty of public libraries is that balance between keeping your patrons happy and censorship.

Interestingly, I just watched “March of the Penguins” last night. It was a really cute movie. And after watching it and seeing the way Penguins mate, I can totally see how this situation could happen. Like, maybe the mother died while out getting food? So the two males took care of the baby together, because it seems like it does take two parents to raise up the baby penguin. One of them goes out and seeks food while the other keeps the baby warm. I think it’s silly for Republicans to jump on this as a “gay” issue. On the other hand, I haven’t seen the book so I can’t say whether the writer was presenting the penguins as gay. But so what if they were? It’s kind of a nice analogy that shows that two members of the same sex, who love each other, can successfully raise a child. Why people think this is a bad thing is totally beyond me.

  • absence

    March 5, 2006

I apologize for my absence the past week. This past week has been crazy. First of all, I’ve been sick with the flu. Then, when I came into work on Monday and Tuesday I had to train the person taking over my job, then the rest of the week I had to get used to working at a new library.

I didn’t tell you? They moved me to a new branch. They hired a couple of new people and one of them hasn’t graduated from library school yet so they thought it would be best if she was at the Downtown branch. The good news is that I really like the new branch! It’s a nice neighboorhood branch. No more of the Downtown drama.

So I don’t know how much time i will have for posting in the next few weeks since I will be busy at this new place.
