    Op-Ed Columnist: Bliss and Bigotry

I repeat: am I missing something?!? What does gays or lesbians getting married have ANYTHING to do with anyone’s marriage personally? is it going to weaken the marital bond that I have with my husband? NO! And don’t give me the B.S. that our children’s attitudes about marriage will be altered if we allow people of the same sex to get married (the, “it will turn him/her gay” argument). A child may or may not become gay whether marriage is redefined(to include gays and lesbians) or not. And, they might get married while gay, too! It has gone on for years and years. Gay people will continue to exist and raise families and have marriage ceremonies whe

ther the State recognizes them or not. Why can’t we just accept that, recognize these relationships as marriages and move on?!? I can’t even believe this is an issue. What is wrong with two people who love each other getting married?! I think it is frightening that Bush wants to try to put an amendment in our constitution to ban gay marriages. I think it’s nuts! I feel like I’m in the twilight zone or something.

Sorry to get on my soapbox, but this issue really gets to me, probably because I live in the San Francisco bay area. I’ve watched these weddings in the news and seeing how happy these people are. I just don’t understand the problem with it.

Yahoo! News – Bush to Back Gay Marriage Ban Amendment

I was watching the news this morning, waiting to see what the traffic report was going to be when the morning broadcast was rudely interupted by Mr. Bush. And, man oh man, I couldn’t believe what I heard. He made his official statement about amending the Constitution to ban gay marriages. I was watching this, getting more and more angry, wondering what the hell happened to my country. Now we are writing bigotry into the Constitution? What the hell is going on here?!? I really feel the need to write to my Senators and Representatives. However, I think, (I hope) that Boxer and Fienstien have thier wits about them. But then I don’t know. Didn’t they both vote yes for the Patriot Act?

I can’t believe this is happening…It is frightening that Bush wants to alienate a whole group of American citizens. Amending the Constitution to ban gay marriage? Isn’t that a little extreme?!?

Yahoo! News – Laura Bush Says Gay Marriage ‘Shocking’
I’m sorry, but I feel like I am totally missing something…..What is the problem with gay marriage?!? Why is it so shocking? Why is it shocking that two people who love each other, who are living together and have been partners for 10, 15, 25, etc. years get married? These are people who contribute to society, raise families, and, damn it, they deserve to have the same rights as everyone else! Why is love so shocking? I think we are looking at the biggest case of homophobia that this country has ever seen.

  • The Butterfly Effect

    February 17, 2004

We went to see the Butterfly Effect yesterday. It wasn’t bad. In fact, It was kind of good. It was entertaining. And what more could you ask for in a movie? I mean, entertainment is the general purpose, right? It got horrible reviews by all of the major newspapers. Boiled down, this is what the movie is about:
A college student figures out how to go back to his childhood to change his past, and thusly, his present and future. His main motivation in going back is to save the life of the girl he has loved since childhood. The more he goes back the more he screws things up. It is a very entertaining movie and if you like stories that play with alternate universes, as I do, you will like this movie.

    Op-Ed Columnist: Who’s Nader Now?
I am sick of candidate bashing. I was hoping that we could go through this election without seeing too much of it. I’m talking about the bashing of a fellow democrat. It’s totally ridiculous. You are on the same team! Out for the same purpose! Bashing your fellow party member will only destroy your goal, to get a Democrat in the Oval Office. I like what Wesley Clark said during a debate a few months ago. He was getting trounced on by Kerry and Lieberman for his earlier comments on the Iraq war. Clark simply told them that he wasn’t going to take thier bait. He wasn’t going to put down a fellow democrat. I thought that was very smart of him. I know I am not alone in being sick of political bashing. We need to come together, more than ever, to get Bush out of the white house. The candidates tearing each other down will only ensure that Bush stays.
