Inktober

Drawing

Last weekend I decided to bring my sketchbook out with me, my first time sketching in public. I sketched this while waiting for my husband to get off work in the library at Portland Community College.

I have to admit that I’ve reached a drawing slump and I’m feeling very unmotivated. Maybe it’s because I’ve been putting most of my creative energy into writing poetry these past couple of weeks? Is this even possible? Does creativity work that way?

Regardless, it breaks my heart that my desire to draw has left me. I think I might try a different medium for awhile and see if that helps. I also have a ton of drawing books. Maybe if I go through the exercises  that will help….

I am really enjoying sketching my camera collection. Here is my Olympus OM1. I’ve dusted it off and have been playing with it this past weekend. Loaded with a roll of Cinestill 50 since it’s been really sunny out.

You can see more of my drawings over at Gotta Sketch That Itch.

Inktober

Drawing

Apparently there is this thing called Inktober, where artists dedicate the month of October to drawing with ink. This is perfect because I am currently in an ink drawing phase!

here is something I drew the first day of October.

I’ve been learning how to use Adobe Illustrator at work and I learned how to turn a photo into a vector drawing. It was really cool because it helped me see the various shades of gray in the photo. I used it to help me with shading in this one. Here is the vector drawing I was working with:
