I don’t know if any other progressives reading this feel this way, but the past couple of days I find myself really, really angry at the Bush voters. To the point where if I drive by a car with a Bush sticker on it, my instant reaction is to flip them off. I don’t, mind you. But I want to. I’ve never felt this way after an election. And I’ve voted for the loser before (I voted for the first George Bush when he ran agaisnt Clinton). I didn’t feel this anger toward Clinton voters then. But now I am mad. I want nothing to do with the Bush voters. I don’t even want to try to make things work. I think they are all dispicable human beings. I hope my feelings change with time, but this is how I feel today.
Why are they dispicable? Because they voted for the torture of innocent iraqis in Abu Graib. They voted for the killing and maiming of innocent Iraqi children. They voted for the erosion of my civil rights. They voted for this man, even after knowing that there were no wmd in Iraq. They voted for him knowing that he wants to make it okay to be a bigot by making a constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage. Knowing all of this, they voted for him for shallow reasons like “He’s the kind of person I can have a beer with.” or ” he can relate to the common man.” The Bush voters have voted our country into disaster. The blood is on thier hands.
And reading a couple of conservative blogs, I’m seeing that they are still calling us elitist, and that this is bad for the country. How is not wanting the government to define marraige elitist? How is leaving the constitution the way it is elitist? How is not wanting the killing and torture of innocent people elitist? Why is it elitist for me to not want the government telling me what to do with my body? This “elistist” argument is utter and complete bullshit and I, for one, am sick and tired of hearing it. I don’t even know if this is about ANYONE being elitist. I think it’s more about my views being completely different than those of the fundamentalist neo-con agenda. And do you think I think my views are right? You bet I do! The neo-con believe thier agenda is right. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be trying to legislate them. So, maybe the elitist argument by the conservatives is just a tad hypocritical, since they are attempting to force their beliefs on me.
Yes, I’m pissed. I don’t know if I will be able to be in the same room with a bush voter for awhile.
