Lomo Purple

I missed posting last week, needed a little break from the Intertubes. But I am back in the saddle with another post from that Lomo Purple roll. This is one that that I shot at the Stonehenge Memorial when I was there. You can read more about my visit there on Pinhole Obscura.

This is completely off topic, but I have started another blog that is dedicated to my daily drawings. I’ve invited my friends to join me, as well. You can find it here: Gottasketchthatitch.com. I am completely new at this whole sketching thing (give or take) so please don’t laugh at my attempts :). I just feel like it’s good to get yourself out there and connect with others who are trying to accomplish the same things. Maybe we can support each other.

13 seconds of bliss

It’s a new month and the perfect time to start a new focus for my photo blog. I’ll get back to self portraits at another time, perhaps. For now, here is a pinhole photo of daisies for you. I took this on a walk home from work in May. It is not often that I take a detour through the park, but I did on this day. And then I rested next to the creek while I made this photo. It was a relaxing 13 seconds.

This was shot with Lomo Purple. I am really liking this film the more I use it. I will share more Lomo Purple pinhole shots with you in later posts.

Today’s photoblog is a self portrait I took last month with the fabulous Terrapin Bijou using Lomo Purple film. I don’t know why, but I like this image. It kind of evokes a general feeling about work that I’ve been feeling these past few weeks. It’s not necessarily a bad feeling at all, just a tired feeling. I’ve been very busy getting ready for the Summer Reading Program and it’s exhausting. I have so many blog posts half written it’s not even funny. But there is always time for a photo post! And, apparently, there is time for a pinhole photo at work.

Surreal Purple Landscape

I mentioned a few months ago that I saw the documentary The Enclave at the Portland Art Museum. The documentary was filmed in Aerochrome which renders the landscape in brilliant pinks and reds. The choice of this film was brilliant for many reasons. Reasons that belong in their very own blog post.

This particular blog post is about film. Being a film photography enthusiast, I am fascinated by a film that changes the look of a landscape. Sadly, Aeorchrome is discontinued.

Enter Lomography*.

They are selling a film called Lomochrome Purple XR. The film does something similar in that it shifts greens to purples and creates very surreal landscapes. Blue Moon sells it locally so I picked some up and loaded it into my Olympus XA. Here are the results.

The film has an ISO rating of 100-400, so I tried it at 100, 200, and 400, depending on where I was. I didn’t see much of a difference in color shifts in the various ISO choices. The photos shot in brighter sunlight seem to be a bit more purpley but not that much more, as you can see above.

Yesterday I shot a roll of Lomo Purple in my pinhole camera at the beach and I am really looking forward to seeing how those came out. I will share the results here when I get them back from the lab.

*As much as I want to hate Lomography I can’t. They keep making products I like! Dammit!
