Politics News Article | Reuters.com| Bush: Would give ‘Mission Accomplished’ speech again.
President Bush said he had no regrets about donning a flight suit to give his “Mission Accomplished” speech on Iraq in May 2003 and would do it all over again if he had the chance, according to excerpts from an television interview released on Sunday.
Are you kidding me? Thousands upon thousands of people have died and he has “no regrets”?!? This is an outrage. He might as well spit on the graves of the over 1,000 soldiers that have died for NOTHING. Everytime Bush opens his mouth I am utterly sickened.
I was watching the local public access channel last night and they were broadcasting a speech that Amy Goodman from Democracy Now was giving at the Rio Theater, just down the street from my house here in Santa Cruz. She was talking about how the American media has put a veneer on this war that romanicizes it. She compared images from CNN America that showed soilders standing in the sunset, and then she showed images that CNN broadcasted in Iraq of the bodies of dead children, or with limbs blown off. Homes utterly destroyed. One image in particular that made me physically ill was a poor child who had been injured from a bomb, his arm was charred black and his hand had been blown off. Jutting out from the charred black skin was the bone where the upper part of his arm had once been. THIS WAS A CHILD! I saw that and the breath was knocked out of me for a moment. It was horrible. But you know what? These are the images of the Iraq war. This is what we are doing over there. We are killing children. We are maiming children. Over 14,000 Iraqi civilians dead. It’s horrifying. And what do we see in the media? These romanticized pictures of soilders standing in the Sunset. And the young American people we are sending over there…..They are the ones who have to live with the horror of killing these poor innocents. THEY have to live with this. It’s like this one soldier said in MM’s film Farenheight 9/11: “When you kill someone, part of your soul is taken away.”
I’m sorry to get on my soapbox but this whole thing is getting to me. It’s sick. But what is even more sick are the freaking conservative drones that follow Bush and think it’s okay to kill over 14,000 innocent people – including children. People need to wake the hell up in this country! Wake up! This killing has got to stop!

One response to “Bush has no regrets. It’s regretful.”
The real tragic part is that they are still a mostly tribal culture, which means we are causing blood feuds to spring up every time we indiscriminately bomb civilian areas. I’m going to give the military the benefit of the doubt that their are actually insurgents where they are bombing, but for every innocent bystander we kill we run the risk of adding more insurgents to the fight. I’m afraid that we’ve entered into a cycle of retribution that we can’t win by letting the insurgents trick us into using our weapons of war against them within civilian areas. There is no such thing as a surgical strike inside a heavily populated city. A concept lost on your average foaming at the mouth Republican. I’m afraid the worst days are still ahead of us Monica.
