Yahoo! News – Kerry Concedes Election to Bush
Bush aides said he told Kerry he was an “admirable, worthy” opponent during the phone call, which ended their bitter and extraordinarily close eight-month struggle for the White House.
Well, it’s over. At least for now. This is a huge dissappointment. It wouldn’t be so bad. But Bush is a deciever. I heard from an ABC pundit this morning (was it Koppel) that it was the evangelical vote that put Bush over the top. There were many evangelicals that stayed at home in 2000, but came to the polls yesterday. The pollsters didn’t anticipate this. They kept saying that new voters = democratic votes. This may have been true, but new voters also equaled new evangelical votes.
So, I ‘ve been brewing on this all morning. I’ve come to the conclusion that our country has been hijacked by Christian Fundamentalists. I know that sounds extreme, but that is how I feel right now. Bush has figured out that if you convince evangelicals your thier candidate, you will win elections. And as Raffa said to me this morning, Evangelicals are easy to mobilize because they blindly follow. It is in the nature of thier religion to blindly follow (I know because I was an evangelical once. I couldn’t stay and evangelical because I could never blindly follow).
I am reminded of the book “the Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood. if you’ve read this, you know what I’m talking about.

I think California, Oregon and Washington should secede. Seriously. We can invite all of the other blue states to come and live, or they can secede with us, if they want. But we can survive without the rest of the nation. We have the agricultural market, we have the tech market, and now we have stem cell research. Let’s give the rest of the country to the crackers. let ’em have it. I’m sick of this evangelical, fundamentalism that is a cancer to our civil rights. What do you think? Unfortunately, the Civil War established that states had no right to secede from the union. If Democrates and progressives want to win, they are going to have to find ways to make their views more acceptable to the voters in all these red states. If not, there are a lot of elections ahead that will be lost. Just a hint: Calling these people blind followers of fundamentalism is not how to do it.

Jill, there’s a little something called hyperbole….If you haven’t noticed, we progressives are upset right now. I don’t know how you found my blog, but coming here and telling me how to think and what to do is totally out of line. I am not going to bow down to the beliefs of fundamentalists. I disagree with thier beliefs. I will not allow the reversal of roe v wade. I will not allow the invasion of my privacy. I will not stand by and watch as a constitutional amendment is created banning gay marraige. I will not bow to their agenda. We will have to find another way to win elections.
As to your hint. Did you read my post? I was talking about how Bush won the election via the evangelical vote. He won because of “moral issues.’ That pisses me off. Fundamentalis Evangelicals, because of the nature of thier religion (hence the term “fundamentalist”) are blind followers. they don’t use logic to believe what they do. They take, for example, what the preacher says at the pulpit as the word of God. I know because I was once a fundamentalist evangelical. I’ve seen this with my own eyes, and experienced it. This is the truth. I am not going to whitewash the truth. I don’t care if my words offend the fundamenatists. I couldn’t give a shit. I am pissed off. Thier blind faith is what is going to run this country into the ground during the next four years. As I said, we will have to find another way to win elections. Maybe the democrats should stoop to the level of the republicans AND STEAL THEM.
