Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture

I saw this on a blog that I lurk on and I loved the idea! And because I’ve been interested lately in writing poetry I thought I’d try it. What you do is you listen, randomly, to the first 20 songs on your mp3 player and write down the first line of each song. Verse it out into stanzas with four lines and you have your poem. The 21st line is the title or your poem. The result on the blog I got this from, The Reading Zone, turned out to actually make a lot of sense!

And that is why I love Found Poetry (and this is a type of Found Poetry). It is an interesting exploration of context. For example, I might find some random note laying on the street. Because of my past experiences I attach meaning to it and create a context for it.

So let’s try this, shall we?

Josie, You’re My Source of Most Frustration.

I love you so much it hurts
I might be wrong.
The prophet speaks his language, reeks,
As I lay this song to rest.

I hate the TV,
This is an imitation of a kiss.
Few of the sins of the father are visited upon the son,
It’s not that complicated and you ain’t gotta believe.

Take cover in these words,
I want a girl with a mind like a diamond.
Ziggy played guitar,
It was January 1963.

Cease to resist, giving my goodbye
You’re the devil in me I brought in from the cold.
True about my taste
Geology is digging through my brain.

In my little town,
That’s the truth now, baby,
Mama’s got a squeeze box
I cannot disguise.
