There are good years and bad years. This was a very good year.

Life

It is that time of year. Yes. it is time for the “end of the year reflect on the past year” blog post.

Up front, I have to say that 2014 was just so excellently good. I honestly can’t think of a bad thing from this past year. It was good in so many ways. Here is a list of some of my favorite moments and things that happened.

Lomo’ Instant fun

Photography

I’d been dying for an Instax Mini for a very long time. I completely dig the business card size of the prints. I started really shopping around last summer and kind of decided on the Instax Mini 90 Neo but kept getting hung up on the price. Someone directed me to the Lomo’ Instant Kickstarter. I hated the thought of contributing to a Lomography Kickstarter project. I had mixed feelings about the Kickstarter they did for the Petzval lens. But in the end my wallet won out because the cost of one of these cameras during the Kickstarter was quite reasonably priced. I kind of hate that I was played in this way but what are you going to do.

A return to vinyl

Life

I remember the first record I ever bought. It was the 45 single of “The Tide Is High” by Blondie. I remember the day I bought it at the Spokane Valley Mall when I was out with my friends for the day, hanging out. I was in 6th grade. I remember standing in the record store and staring at the cover and thinking that Blondie was the coolest woman on the planet. I played the record to death. And others, too. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship with music and records.

I sold my record collection in my grandmother’s estate sale. I’d become a born-again Christian and didn’t think having them was wholesome. So I sold them for a song. Yes, including my beloved “The Tide Is High” 45. I have regretted doing this many millions of times. It hurts even now, just thinking about it.
