Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

I received my first postcard from the postcard exchange! This is from Jeff and you can find his wonderful work at his website, How Things Look.
He has also been a contributor at Pinhole Obscura.

Getting this today really made my day. I am really excited about this project. I love the idea of our photography printed up and making its way through the mail in the U.S. and all over the world. As opposed to being seen only on the internet. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it’s just kinda cool to have a tangible print of the photo.

I am working with another friend on a way to make this project more collaborative and easier. Stay tuned for more details on that as I work them out!

  • This has been a crazy week

    December 14, 2013

I am not even sure where to start. It’s been a roller coaster of events and emotions.

    • On Saturday I was driving  back from a party literally in the middle of nowhere when the “check engine” light came on. I spent the rest of the 20 minute drive praying that I make it home (the temperatures outside were in the teens). By the time I got home it was acting really weird. So it has been in the shop all week – costing us a lot of money to fix.
    • I finally quit Facebook. I deactivated my account. It was a hard decision but I really feel like it is the right thing to do. Facebook is a huge time suck and I am finding myself busy with lots of projects lately that I want to focus my time and energy on. I am going to miss my friends there but I need an extended break.
    • I have been really, really sick this past week with the flu. like, kind of scary sick.  Last night I got up in the middle of the night to throw up and moved too fast. I got to the bathroom door and saw stars and cried for help and the next thing I remember I am laying on the floor in the hallway and my husband’s face is hovering over me (just like in the movies). He is calling 911. I was confused and didn’t know how I got there. The paramedics came but it ended up only being low blood pressure. I’ve been sleeping all day and I think I am finally over the worst of it.
    • I won a contest! A film swap contest. I will talk more about that later.

  • My new photography blog

    December 10, 2013

I created a new blog dedicated to photography. I wanted a place where I could showcase my best work and talk exclusively about photography. I will still talk about photography here, but my posts here will continue to be opinionated, while my posts there will be less so. I hope you will subscribe and enjoy!

  • Let’s exchange photos!

    Let’s exchange photos!

    December 5, 2013

My friend shared this link with me today on Facebook and immediately the wheels in my head started turning. A few hours earlier I was thinking about the days when we used to write letters to each other and now those days are over. It’s kind of sad. Our words to each other only exist in the digital world which is fleeting and tenuous. If you haven’t clicked the link yet, let me tell you what this is and what I am proposing.  Jai Tanju started a print exchange with his buddies and it blew up into something incredible. You can see his blog here.

I love this idea. You might have figured this out about me by now: I love the tangible. I love making things and holding tangible things in my hands. So I love this idea to pieces.  And I want to exchange photography with you! This will be a good excuse to get into the darkroom because that is what I am planning to send. But you don’t have to do that! You can send whatever you want! There are no rules, as far as I am concerned. Are you interested? If so fill out the form in this post and lets exchange photos! Let’s make the mail fun again!

There have been some friends on Twitter and Facebook who have shown interest (if we’ve already chatted about this don’t worry about filling out the form). So I am thinking it might be fun to figure out how to collaborate on this. Let me think about this for a day or so and I might come back for a part 2 on this blog post…

  • Bridge Of the Gods

    December 3, 2013

New blog post up at Pinhole Obscura about The Bridge Of The Gods on the Columbia Gorge. There is a really wonderful Native American legend about this place that I love.

    Moni's avatarPinhole Obscura

Once upon a time the Chief Of The Gods and his two sons, Pahto and Wy’east, traveled from the North down the Columbia River to find a place to settle. They came upon the most beautiful land they had ever seen and decided that this was the place. However, the two sons quarreled over the land and to settle the dispute their father shot two arrows from his bow: one to the North and one to the South. Pahto followed the arrow to the North and settled there, while Wy’east followed the arrow South. Their father then built A bridge across The Columbia so their family could gather from time to time.

Both sons fell in love with the same woman, the beautiful  Loowit. She could not choose between them so the brothers fought each other for her hand. They buried villages in their destructive wake. The area was left…
