Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on Β Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit! Β

    A small good thing

    September 13, 2017

Today I got to play around with Sun Print paper in advance of a makerspace activity I’m doing with the kids at the library on Saturday. I thought it would be fun to show the kids how photo printing actually works so I brought some 4×5 negatives of some pinhole photos to use. On Saturday I will bring my 4×5 pinhole camera so they can see the camera that was used for the image.

I had so much fun doing this! It invigorated in me a desire to play with cyanotypes and other alternative printing.

    September 12, 2017

I’ve been falling into the bad habit of ruminating negatively on how rough this year has been. I feel like I’ve learned the lesson of impermanence over and over again. Many of my favorite things, things that I’ve taken for granted, are gone. My favorite knitting shop closed, Newspace is no more, the Columbia Gorge continues to burn as I type this. On a larger level, our country is in shambles with a narcissistic president who doesn’t Β care about anyone but himself and his cronies. I miss Obama. I miss having a competent president.

I was going down this road this morning and then I stopped and decided to look at the bright side. And, indeed, that helped. I looked at the things in my life that I do have and I have to admit, that I am a lucky girl. I have a lot to be grateful for.

As I was walking out the door and turning on iTunes this was the first song that played. I feel like the Universe is telling me it will all be OK.

No pinhole adventures this weekend but I did stock up on film and reading material.

    Sunday run day πŸƒ

    September 10, 2017

The wind changed direction and it rained a couple of times this week so my run was pleasant this morning. It’s nice to have clear air and to be able to breath! However my shoulder is all knotted up and hurts and it affected how I felt. Getting old kind of sucks.

Here I am at the Forest Oracle wishing for a good race next week. 😊

  • Love in the time Of Cholera

    September 9, 2017

I finished “Love In The Time Of Cholera” last week and I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, I still think the writing is beautiful. I liked the pace of the story. The characters were interesting. But I am bothered by something and I can’t get past it. It is written about so casually and that bothers me. In the story Florentino, the hero, starts an affair with the child he is taking care of. She is underage, like around 14. It’s gross. I really bothers me and I can’t get past it.

I am also bothered by the whole theme of the book. I’ve decided that this is not a book about love at all. It’s a book about obsession. Florentino’s life long obsession with Fermina made me sad.

    Just some random thoughts.
