Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    Well, I drank the Kool-aide.

Yes, I loved it. I Couldn’t put it down. Couldn’t get enough of it. Want more of it.

I went into it very skeptical. I am not a fan of the vampire story genre. In fact I couldn’t get through the first chapter of The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. But I really, really enjoyed this book.

Some of the dialog is really cheesy as is the whole, “You can’t love me because I’m too dangerous” thing. But I still loved it and can’t wait to read the next one.

If you are not familiar with the plot it can be summed up:
Girl falls in love with a vampire. Vampire falls in love with a girl. Vampire wants to murder girl but saves her life multiple times instead.

It really appealed to my inner teenager girl. I definitely recommend it. I is every bit as good as everyone says it is.

    The road to nowhere

I think lots of you have already seen this on my Flickr stream, but it is the only bloggable photo I have taken in the past week so that is why it’s here, as well.
I took this on Sunday on a Walk at one of our usual haunts, the Columbia Plateau Trail just outside of Cheney, WA. I bought the current edition of Popular Photography and they had this fabulous tutorial for creating a Lomo camera effect so I tried it on this picture. It was fun to try and I learned lots of new Photoshoppy things. It has inspired me to play around with more tutorials.

Do you have any favorite Photoshop tutorial sites? What are they?

    August 28, 2008

I’ve had the song “Paper Planes” in my head for a week now. It’s seriously driving me insane. When I first heard the song I thought it was kind of fun and peppy. Then my husband said to me when it was on the radio, “this song is really kind of disturbing. Just listen to the words.” And I did. And I really couldn’t understand most of the words. I did understand the chorus, with the gunshots and the cha-ching of the cash register. And I did understand the part where she sings, “Some, some some of them I murder, some I let go.” I had never noticed that part before. wow. I was kind of creeped out a little.

But, damn it. I still really like the song.

  • Crafty Monday: Twilight Scarf

    August 25, 2008

Twilight ScarfI cast on this last week while we were on vacation. It’s the Twilight Scarf from the book A Fine Fleece. I used that silk yarn hand spun from silk hankies (the one I started to use for the Morning Surf Scarf) and some yarn I hand dyed with grape Kool-Aid a couple of years ago.

At first I was daunted by having to cut the silk yarn each section because the main color pattern repeat is 12 rows and I didn’t think it would look good carrying the contrasting yarn that many rows. However, I devised a trick (and I’m sure I’m not the first person in the knitting world to think of this). At the start of each right side row (where my yarn not being used was hanging out) I wrapped my working yarn around the non-working yarn. The non-working yarn would get “weaved in” up the side automatically. It turned out really well and I only had a few ends to weave in at the end as opposed to a million. yay!

As usual, here is the Ravelry info if you wish to see it.
