Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    Snow Shoeing

    February 20, 2008

Raf and I went snow shoeing for the first time on Sunday with some friends of our from work. Can I say? It was a blast! I think I am hooked. It was so great getting outside into the fresh air and wilderness again. I have missed it! Raf and I usually go on a weekend hike and have for years and years. That is, until we moved to Spokane and experienced winter. The snow and ice has kept us indoors for the most part on the weekends. And it kind of sucks. But snow shoeing! Wow! What a great way to get out and get some exercise in this weather!

The day was absolutely gorgeous! Nice and sunny. And kind of warm, too. It had to be close to 40 degrees up there. I actually got quite warm and peeled off several layers. This could have been because I was working pretty hard. Snow shoeing is quite the calorie-burner!
There was one sort of scary mishap. We were bushwhacking up a ridge and were going over a fallen tree. Since the snow was weaker there I fell into a hole and got stuck. Thank goodness I was with some experts. They got me out of there without a hitch. I started to kind of panic but they said that falling into holes is kind of common and happens to everyone. And, indeed, it did happen a couple of times to other people. So it is something I should be prepared for if I go again. The thing that I loved about it was that I could go places that would be completely un-passable in the summer. We trekked over what would be thick brush and bushes if it weren’t for the snow.

Getting up there and down from there was kind of a trip. We almost hit a deer that jumped out right in front of us. I am sooo glad we didn’t hit it. And then on the way back down the mountain we were driving around a corner and came upon a truck that was on it’s side and three young men were climbing out of the driver’s side window. The wreck had just happened. We stopped and tried to help them. We couldn’t do much except make sure they could get a ride to where they needed to go, which we did. The wanted us to help them push thier billion ton truck back onto it’s wheels but we didn’t think that was a good idea. We all have back problems and didn’t think we wanted to kill ourselves trying to help them in this way. Leave that to the professionals!

  • Crafty Monday: Amy Butler Swing Bag

    February 18, 2008

    Amy Butler Swing Bag

Hi! I made this on Saturday! My first sewn bag. I bought the fabric down in Santa Clara at the Bobbins Nest Studio. Both the fabric and the pattern is Amy Butler. And the bag is reversible.

I especially like the print on the left and would like to make a wrap dress out of it.

I am thinking that Saturdays are going to be my sewing days. Well, the Saturdays I have off, which is every other Saturday. Up next for sewing projects will be a cute wrap skirt. Looking forward to making it!

Also, I finished knitting a shawl that I’ve been working on forever. I need to get a picture taken and then I will post it.

    green path

    February 16, 2008

When we were down in San Jose, we went for our favorite hike at Rancho Del Oso. As we hiked along we entered this little area where everything was completely covered with green moss. It felt like I was in some kind of fairy land or something. It was so pretty! I’m not entirely sure what kind of trees these are. I think they are Coast Live Oak?

  • Sunset Anyone?

    Sunset Anyone?

    February 15, 2008

Another shot of that day in Santa Cruz, taken almost three weeks ago. This was taken at Capitola after a meal at our favorite veggie restaurant, Dharmas. If you are ever in the Santa Cruz, you should eat there. It’s a nice little, low-key place with great food.

Is there nothing more awesome than watching the sunset over the ocean? I think it’s one of my favorite things. There is something almost spiritual about it. or something.

  • Lost boys bridge

    February 14, 2008

Lost boys bridge, originally uploaded by CraftyMoni.

Raf and I lived in Santa Cruz for 7 years, five of them near this bridge. It was when we walked over this bridge a couple of weeks ago that I realized that this is the bridge featured in the Lost Boys (the part where they race on their motorcycles over the beach and end up at a bridge that they hang, and then drop from.). I even said something to Raf, “Hey, this is the Lost Boys bridge!”

As we were taking pictures of it a skater kid walked by and said, “hey bro, taking pictures of the Lost Boys bridge, huh? That’s cool.”

    cool, indeed.

This picture was taken a few hours after the last one. We packed a lot of stuff into our first day of vacation. We basically did a normal weekend’s worth of stuff in one day. We were just so happy to be out of the blahs and into sunshine. The bridge is very near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, which we also explored.

guys, thanks for your responses to my last post. All of you. I would e-mail you individually, and maybe I should. My stupid WordPress program is not sending me my comments to my inbox and it is irritating. I will definately have to post more about the whole Zen exploration in future posts. I’m finding it very interesting.
