Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

Three Little Birds, originally uploaded by CraftyMoni.

    Rise up this mornin,
    Smiled with the risin sun,
    Three little birds
    Pitch by my doorstep
    Singin sweet songs
    Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin, (this is my message to you-ou-ou:)

Singin: dont worry bout a thing,
cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin: dont worry (dont worry) bout a thing,
cause every little thing gonna be all right!

    Thank you Bob Marley!

When I took this picture in Santa Cruz I thought of this time last year and how depressed I was. And how this song kind of made me feel a little bit better one dark day. The song immediately started going in my head and I knew I had to take this picture. I wish I could have taken a better picture, but I still haven’t mastered my photography skillz yet.

This wast taken at Natural Bridges beach. There is an overlook there and Raf and I always go there first when we visit Santa Cruz.

Last year was really horrible depression-wise. But this year? Not so bad, despite all of the snow. I think it has to do with my being more mindful lately. I’ve been exploring Zen Buddhism and have found it really interesting. It’s kind of getting me to appreciate the here and now. My problem, I have found is that I need to find happiness where I am at at the moment. That has always been my problem and I am just realizing it now.

Maybe I will blog about this in the future. It kinda deserves a blog post all by itself.

    Snowing....

God bless those of you who shoveled your walk. To you I say “Thank you.” I am not among you, sadly. I feel sorry for people who have to walk along my part of the sidewalk.

I say this because I had to walk home from the bus last night in the dark. It’s only 4 or five blocks and wouldn’t be a big deal otherwise. However, I ended up being kind of a scary experience. There were portions of the sidewalks that were clear, and that was good. But the sidewalks that weren’t were completely impassable. I had to walk in the road and when a car zoomed by there was really nowhere for me to go. I had to kind of jump up into the gigantic snow pile next to me. I ended up running the stretches in which I had to walk on the road.

Seriously, I have never seen anything like this. When I say we got a lot of snow, we got A LOT of snow. This will be on the ground until April. No question about it.

  • Crafty Monday: a bubble scarf

    February 11, 2008
Bubble Scarf, originally uploaded by CraftyMoni.

Fun! I had always wanted to do something like this. I saw this scarf at Commuknity when I was there last week and decided I had to have one. So I bought some yarn and it was my plane knitting. I couldn’t find acorns so I used wooden bead thingys that I found at Michaels in the wood craft section. I wore it to work today and I love the way it looks. As one person said, “it’s very whimsical.” Indeed.

What you do is knit up a ball of Kidsilk haze in stockinette. Then you attached your round things to the ends of the scarf with rubber bands and felt. Viola! I love it! I even love how the yarn pooled when I knitted it up!

shell fringe scarf, originally uploaded by CraftyMoni.

This is what I knit last week while in San Jose. I bought the yarn and beads at A Grand Yarn on the Saturday before we left. It’s a really easy and fun project. The whole thing is knit in garter stitch and you knit the two halves and sew them together at the end. I was stupid about stringing the beads for the first half. I strung each bead by hand and it took hours! For the second half I followed the directions and strung them by tying the string that they were on to the yarn and then moving them from the string to the yarn.

I think it turned out really lovely! Here is the info on my Ravelry page if you are interested.

    first things first

    February 5, 2008

Here is what I arrived to when we got home Sunday night. A seriously huge amount of snow. I think seeing it in my back yard on the trees like this, bending them in half, was the biggest shocker. I hope they survive this!
