Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

I just realized that I forgot to post yesterday about our little trip. Sorry about that…Busy day yesterday.

Anyway, after South Beach we drove a couple of hours North and ended up at Cape Lookout on the Oregon Coast, about 11 miles from Tillamook. We went there last year and I knew I wanted to come back. Oh. My. God. It is a beautiful place. It’s magically beautiful. It might be the most gorgeous place I’ve ever been. If you ever have a chance to visit the Oregon Coast I highly suggest stopping by Cape Lookout.

By this time I was kind of getting sick of camping. Taking down and setting up camp every single day blows. I won’t do that again. But we did end up with a really pretty campsite here. We had lots of privacy and shade and there was a little creek running right next to the site. We set up camp and then Raf went for one of his epic-long hikes and I went into town to get dinner (not-dogs to roast on the fire), hung out on the beach, went for a little hike, and spent some time reading H.P. 7.

Raf wandered back into camp and we decided to roast our “hot dogs.” Then we went back to the beach to watch the sun set.

That night we were sleeping rather peacefully when we heard some really scary growling noises. It was very scary. I don’t know what it was but it sounded like a rabid racoon. Whatever it was it was pissed. And it was right near our heads. When I rolled over it started growling and making really strange sounds – like it was fighting something. Then I heard it walk down and splash in the creek. Scary!

The next morning, after we took down our camp yet again, we drove up to the trailhead and hiked the Cape Lookout trail. The views were spectacular! Seriously, if you are ever on the Oregon Coast…

After our hike we headed up to the Long Beach Penninsula in Washington State, one of our favorite places. More about that interesting day tomorrow!

Here are some more pictures from Cape Lookout:

  • An Amazing Story

    August 17, 2007

I am shaking right now, after reading about my knit-blogging friend, Lolly’s experience at the Lima Airport during the earthquake. It’s a truly amazing story. You should read it.

  • South Beach, Oregon Coast

    Beach at South Beach
The next day of our trip we landed at South Beach campground on the Oregon Coast. It’s just South of Newport. Practically in Newport, actually. It took us several hours to get there and we were pretty exhausted by the time we made it, but it was really nice to see the beach. I’ve missed it so much. The beach and campground were not spectacular. I spent most of my time at camp reading Harry Potter. Then the next day we packed up, yet again, and drove north.

  • Mt. Hood

    August 14, 2007

    Runners

The first stop on our trip last week was Mt. Hood. We didn’t have any reservations or anything. We just threw caution to the wind and drove there, hoping to find an empty campsite. As it turned out, we didn’t have any problems whatsoever. Mt. Hood has an abundance of campgrounds. We ended up at Trillium Lake . (Note that the picture in the Wikipedia entry was taken at Trillium Lake. yeah. It was super foggy when we were there. you would never know that the mountain was hovering right over the lake!)

Trillium lake was beautiful. Absolutely stunning place. there is a nice little 2 mile path around the lake with views of marshland and meadows. And the lake, of course. Oh, and you can, supposedly, see Mt. Hood, too.

It was very cold there, though. I was worried I would freeze to death in the middle of the night (I’m the queen of Hyperbole, you know). And it rained on a little bit, too. But we still had fun. We only stayed there one night and then we were off to the Oregon Coast.

    Multnomah Falls

    August 13, 2007

We’re back! I took lots of pictures and you can see them on my Flickr page. We stopped at Multnomah Falls on the way home. It was really pretty, but very obnoxious. There were way too many tourists. Kind of weird and random if you ask me. But what do I know? I will post more of my favorites in the days to come.
