I am a Children’s Librarian living in the Portland, Oregon area. When I am not Children’s Librianing I like to play with cameras and film. I also like playing the ukulele, knitting, sketching, and hiking.
We got some SNOW last night. Seriously. We got LOTS of snow. I tried to take pictures that could capture the amount of snow we got but I don’t know if I did. It was so deep that when I walked down the path to the garage (which I am so happy to have, btw) it was shin deep. And my husband shoveled yesterday. So that is how much we got last night! We got at least a foot. It’s so pretty! I wish I would have grabbed my camera on my way out the door because the snow in the trees on my way to work was a beautiful sight! and it’s the fun kind of snow, too. I wanted to make snow angels in my back yard because it’s all deep and powdery and soft.
Okay. I could go on and on with a rant on this. But we really, really need to impeach Bush. And not just because he lied to us. The man is a tyrant. And, for the good of our country, the good of the world for that matter, we need to get him out of office. Now. This is what he said during his 60 Minutes interview:
Do you believe, as commander-in-chief, you have the authority to put the troops in there no matter what the Congress wants to do? Pelley asks.
I think I’ve got – in this situation, I do, yeah, Bush says.
Are you kidding me? He is going to just go ahead and do whatever the hell he wants and it doesn’t matter what Congress decides. He is out of control.
WE NEED TO IMPEACH HIM! ARe you listening to this Ms. Pelosi?
I was on the treadmill listening to Monday‘s edition of Democracy Now on my iPod. It was the episode about Martin Luther King. Amy Goodman interviews various people who were there at the scene, including the Reverend Jesse Jackson. It was a really touching episode. I actually was moved to tears at the end of it when they quoted the last speech he made before he died, the “I’ve been to the mountaintop” speech:
Well, I don’t know what will happen now. We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn’t matter with me now, because I’ve been to the mountaintop.
And I don’t mind.
Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land!
And so I’m happy, tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man! Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord!!
It’s chilling. It’s like he knew what was going to happen later that night. When I was listening to this, Dr. King, saying these words, I got all choked up and started crying. We need him today. We desperately need him.
This is going to sound all conspiracy theory-ish, but as I was listening to this episode and hearing all of the interviews it just totally dawned on me, became clear as day, that the F.B.I. was behind the assassination of MLK. In other words, our government murdered Martin Luther King. It’s a clear as a sunny day to me. I mean, it is known that the F.B.I. tried to discredit King. They actively tried to bring down his reputation. So it is really, quite possible that they were, in fact, behind his assasination. The significance of this hit me like a ton of bricks this morning. Our government tried to bring down an American hero. Our government is corrupt. They didn’t want the people out in the streets. They didn’t like that people were standing up for thier civil rights. So they brought down the person that they all looked up to.
And now we find ourselves in the situation we have today. We have a tyrant as a leader (a rant for my next blog post). But the difference is that the people are not rising up like they did back then. We are not in the streets. We should be in the streets in droves and we aren’t. And I am included in this. As much as I hate what is happening I haven’t been to a single protest. Why is that? Why are we so complacent? Is it because of what happened to Martin Luther King? Is it because we know that no matter what we the people do it won’t really matter? Because there will always be corruption in this goverment? Look at where we are now. It’s like we have taken 100 steps backwards. All of the protests in the 60s and we have this utterly dispicable and corrupt President who will do whatever he wants without regard.
We desperately need another Martin Luther King. We need to be stirred out of our complacency.
