Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    Track day

    July 30, 2017

Today my plan simply told me to do a Time Trial for 1 mile, and that’s it. A Time Trial, also known as the Magic Mile, is a way to measure your progress as you train. You are supposed to go to a track and run the mile as fast as you feel like you can. So that’s whatI did. In the blazing mid-day sun.

Since running one mile on my long running day is just completely ridiculous I decided to add my usual 4 mile trail run. I ended up running a bit further than I probably should’ve. Oh well.

My time for the mile has improved though! This makes my competitive, track running 15 year old in me proud.

Today’s power song was “Higher Ground” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Still working my way through “Her Husband.” Really enjoying this read. I have checked out the Collected Poems of Sylvia Plath and am reading them as Middlebrook references them.

In the book I’m at the end of Plath’s life, which is really sad. But this is also when she wrote her groundbreaking poems from Ariel: Daddy and the poem from which the book got it’s title.  I have a greater appreciation of her work after reading this book.

I’d like to read the Restored  Edition of Ariel to get a feel for how she actually wanted the book to be published, as opposed to how Ted Hughes thought it should be published.

I am also really enjoying reading Birthday Letters along side this book, as well. I didn’t mention this last week, but Birthday Letters is a collection of poetry Hughes wrote about Plath in the years after her death. It’s basically a biography of their relationship in verse, from the perspective of Hughes.  Middlebrook sort of uses this collection of poetry as a jumping off point for the book.

All of this poetry reading has made me interested in writing poetry! Over the years I have collected a number of poetry writing books and I’ve never cracked them open. Well, that’s not entirely true. I’ve cracked one of them open. I am inspired to at least read these books! Whether I will have time to actually write is another story.

  • Beach Thing

    July 28, 2017

Here are a couple of photos from my first roll through the Reality So Subtle pinhole camera. The first shot is using the top pinhole, the bottom shot is using the bottom pinhole. I cropped the massive vignette out of the top pinhole shot, and I like the resulting image, much more than I like the bottom shot.

These were both made with Ektar at sunset around the Solstice at Klipsan Beach, WA. Exposure time was 18 seconds.

  • Satisfaction?

    July 27, 2017

Struggling to find an idea for a blog post again today, so I thought I’d see if could find something that would work with the WordPress Weekly Photo theme. This week the theme is satisfaction. For some odd reason, this image  was the first thing to pop into my head. So what the hell. Let’s go with it.

This creature appeared at my Summer Reading program yesterday. When I saw it my heart was filled with warm fuzzies and happiness. It belonged to a little girl, who had a baby sister that occupied the other stroller in the photo. The little girl, obviously, wanted to push “her baby” around in a stroller too. I absolutely love (with all of my heart) that her “baby” is this very well loved Chewbacca doll.

  • Lost Boys Tour through Santa Cruz, CA

    July 26, 2017

I was 18 when The Lost Boys arrived in the theaters in the summer of 1987. I remember walking out of the theater feeling full of energy, high on the excitement of the film. I loved just about everything about it. I would see the film twice more in the theater that summer and the […]
