Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    puddle 2

I’m really creeped out by the weather Frank and Dianne (and Jamison) are getting on the East Coast. It’s in the 70s? You have got to be kidding me! Dianne took a picture of her Daffodils sprouting! In early January?!? That is just wrong.

The weather here is cold. It’s been snowy and cold. But there are some subtle things about it that seem kind of strange. Not like the winters of my childhood.

I guess since I have moved from here (in around 1989) Spokane has these freeze and thaw cycles in winter. It will snow heavily, get really cold and then warm up above 32 degrees and melt. Last year it was really cold for weeks and then we got a “Chinook wind” and melted the snow for a few weeks and then it snowed again. And the snow stayed on the ground for a few weeks until another Chinook blew through. I guess this has been the pattern for the past 10 years or so here.

When I was a kid here I remember snow being on the ground all winter. I remember this because It would really start to get to me in March. Sometimes it would stay until April! I remember getting lots of snow. So much that we could build snow forts and had snowball fights. It doesn’t really seem the same anymore. kids are still able to do these things, but there is a much smaller window of opportunity before the snow melts.

This winter has been strange. Yesterday was a good example. I woke up yesterday morning, looked outside and saw fresh snow on the ground. Lots of it, actually. In fact, I was debating whether I wanted to brave the roads to go meet my mom for breakfast. When I talked to her on the phone an hour later she replied (in a tone that sounded like she thought I was losing my mind) that it was raining out and there was no snow to be seen. Sure enough, I took another look outside and all of the snow was quickly melting. All of the snow we got that night melted by the afternoon. That seems kind of strange to me. It’s like the weather is on steroids or something.

Wish me luck tommorrow. Send good thoughts and vibes for my presentations. They are going to start at 8am pacific time :).

    January 5, 2007

Okay, I’m feeling better today. I don’t know if I have mentioned this on the blog, but I have some anxiety about speaking in front of people. Sometimes it’s anxiety beforehand and then once I am actually doing it I’m fine. But there have been times where I’m in the middle of my presentation and I get a panic attack. It sucks. It’s like I’m just standing there in front of all of these people and I freeze. And then I kind of try to make it through to the end and I think I kind of do okay, but I still end up feeling like an idiot.

So for work I have to go into 18 High School Freshmen classes and give them a little lecture on how to use our library. I am well prepared. I know what I am going to say down to the last sentence. But I’m still a little bit freaked out. I keep telling myself it will be okay, and I’m sure it will be, but still. There is that fear.

    January 4, 2007

Well. 2007 is proving to be a fantastic year. ugh. It started on the 3rd. I realized that people are mean and cruel. That’s all I can say about that because it doesn’t involve me directly. Then last night I woke up at 3:00 AM and just laid there wide awake unable to fall back asleep due to some anxiety and stress that I have about something that I have to do for work. So this messes me up with my excercise plan because I accidentally slept passed the alarm. Now I don’t have time to excercise before work. Great.

Well. At least the Democrats are in power. That’s good news.

  • New Year Meme

    January 2, 2007

Dianne tagged me for a fun meme! here are the rules:

Copy the first sentence(s) from the first blog post you made each month. Provide explanatory context if needed.

How fun! Okay, here it goes:

January 1st 2006: “Okay, as I mentioned yesterday, I wanted to post my goals for 2006 today.” I like to just get down to business.

Feburary 1st, 2006: “It’s interesting to find out that Cindy Sheehan was invited to the SOTU address by US Representative Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma). She (Woolsey) had this to say:”. This was commentary on Cindy Sheehan’s arrest for, basically, wearing a t-shirt.

March 5th 2006: “I apologize for my absence the past week. This past week has been crazy. First of all, I’ve been sick with the flu. Then, when I came into work on Monday and Tuesday I had to train the person taking over my job, then the rest of the week I had to get used to working at a new library.” This was the week that I was transferred to the library that I work at now. It was a crazy week.

September 1st, 2006: “We got back last night from our trip to the Washington Coast. I posted the pictures from our trip on my Flickr page if you would like to see them. We had a wonderful time! No rain! It did get a bit cold Thursday night while we were camping but nothing that a nice, cozy wool sweater didn’t cure.”

October 1st, 2006: “Dianne from Daffodil Lane just sent me a link to this article with a one-word commentary, “Ugh!” “. Commentary on an article about Banned Books week.

November 1st 2006: “AFter reading Amanda’s blog today, I’ve decided to be a participant NaBloPoMo (National Blog Post Month). You have to post something everyday in the month of November.”
