I just read this post at the blog, Ornicus
. this is why we have to fight. I will not stand by and allow these conservative bastards to spread this hatred. Reading this post really lights a fire under me to continue the fight. I will not allow this bigotry, this utter contempt to be the norm. I will not bow down this this agenda of hate. I will never do it. These people are relentless. If you think there is going to be “bridge-building” you have another thing coming. There will certainly not be any “healing” whatsoever. There will be no attempt at trying to patch up this divide. Not when I am hearing comments from the right like:

Let’s face a hard truth: this was the bitterest Presidential campaign in living memory. The Democrats and their allies staked everything on the defeat of this President. All of the resources they had accumulated over a generation of struggle were thrown into this battle: and they have failed. Despite all of their tricks, despite all of their lies, the people have rejected them. They mean nothing. They are worth nothing. There’s no point in trying to reach out to them because they won’t be reached out to. We’ve got their teeth clutching the sidewalk and out boot above their head. Now’s the time to curb-stomp the bastards. – Adam Yoshida

No, we need to take these bastards down. All of ’em. To quote Ornicus: “heal this“

  • oh god, it wasn’t all just a bad dream?

    November 4, 2004

Damn. I read this post this morning at Eschaton, and realized how fucked we are. Damn. Damn Damn Damn Damn Damn. Then I read this post at Daffodil Lane. And now I feel better. Daffodil’s right. It’s time to get mobilized. I’m thinking impeachment. I am going to see if I can find out more information on a serious plan to impeach Bush and I will post when I do.

Try to have a good day….

  • Kerry Concedes Election to Bush

Yahoo! News – Kerry Concedes Election to Bush

Bush aides said he told Kerry he was an “admirable, worthy” opponent during the phone call, which ended their bitter and extraordinarily close eight-month struggle for the White House.

Well, it’s over. At least for now. This is a huge dissappointment. It wouldn’t be so bad. But Bush is a deciever. I heard from an ABC pundit this morning (was it Koppel) that it was the evangelical vote that put Bush over the top. There were many evangelicals that stayed at home in 2000, but came to the polls yesterday. The pollsters didn’t anticipate this. They kept saying that new voters = democratic votes. This may have been true, but new voters also equaled new evangelical votes.

So, I ‘ve been brewing on this all morning. I’ve come to the conclusion that our country has been hijacked by Christian Fundamentalists. I know that sounds extreme, but that is how I feel right now. Bush has figured out that if you convince evangelicals your thier candidate, you will win elections. And as Raffa said to me this morning, Evangelicals are easy to mobilize because they blindly follow. It is in the nature of thier religion to blindly follow (I know because I was an evangelical once. I couldn’t stay and evangelical because I could never blindly follow).

I am reminded of the book “the Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood. if you’ve read this, you know what I’m talking about.

Take a look at the electoral map:
    Electoral college

I think California, Oregon and Washington should secede. Seriously. We can invite all of the other blue states to come and live, or they can secede with us, if they want. But we can survive without the rest of the nation. We have the agricultural market, we have the tech market, and now we have stem cell research. Let’s give the rest of the country to the crackers. let ’em have it. I’m sick of this evangelical, fundamentalism that is a cancer to our civil rights. What do you think? Dianne and Mandrake, you can come and live here..It’s a beautiful place….

  • Bush Camp Sees Victory, Kerry Will Not Concede

    November 3, 2004

Yahoo! News – Bush Camp Sees Victory, Kerry Will Not Concede

it was a bad night for Democrats nationwide, as Republicans expanded their majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives and knocked off Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota.

That will make it easier for Bush to push his conservative agenda through Congress if he is re-elected, potentially making his tax cuts permanent and appointing more federal judges including possibly some U.S. Supreme Court (news – web sites) justices.

Well, I just got up to see what the news was on the count. I had to go to bed before I could tell who was going to be the next president, although, it wasn’t looking very good when I was going to bed. Raffa came in and gave me an update, and I think he did say that Bush won, but I can’t remember.

I woke up at 3:30 am just totally freaked out about this. I laid in bed and thought about the ramifications of this descision. Now the republicans have control of the Senate, the Supreme court, and it looks like the white house. This is not the way it’s supposed to be. There are supposed to be checks and balances. That’s not going to happen. This is very very bad. I’m am really fearful for what is going to happen to this country.

I just can’t believe this has happened. What is it about Bush that makes people so blindly follow him without seeing what he has done?

According to this article linked to above, it’s still too close to call, and that’s why Kerry is not conceding.

  • High Voter Turnout in Bay Area

    November 2, 2004

Yahoo! News – High Voter Turnout in Bay Area

“In some instances, we’ve even had 40 to 50 people waiting in line,” said Elma Rosas of the Santa Clara County Registrar’s Office. “It looks like we may have a large turnout.”

This is incredible….One person I just talked to said she had to wait in line for an hour!!!! That’s totally unprecendented. For me, it wasn’t so busy in Santa Cruz. I did have to wait in line but only for a couple of minutes. It’s exciting that so many people are out there voting and taking part in our democracy.

over the weekend ,on C-span, there was a debate that I watched at Oxford. The were debating who should be the next president of the United States. It kind of hit me…Our vote for president doesn’t just affect the United States, it affects the whole world. Other people in the world (in this case, England) care about our election. They are having debates about it, conversations about it. And we the people of the United States are the ones who are going to determine the outcome of this election. Doesn’t that kind of make you feel powerful? What a privelidge that we Americans hold this in our hands.

I hope that every one of you reading this votes today. You hold the future of America, and the world.
