  • Bush has no regrets. It’s regretful.

President George W. Bush walks across the tarm...

Politics News Article | Reuters.com| Bush: Would give ‘Mission Accomplished’ speech again.

President Bush said he had no regrets about donning a flight suit to give his “Mission Accomplished” speech on Iraq in May 2003 and would do it all over again if he had the chance, according to excerpts from an television interview released on Sunday.

Are you kidding me? Thousands upon thousands of people have died and he has “no regrets”?!? This is an outrage. He might as well spit on the graves of the over 1,000 soldiers that have died for NOTHING. Everytime Bush opens his mouth I am utterly sickened.

I was watching the local public access channel last night and they were broadcasting a speech that Amy Goodman from Democracy Now was giving at the Rio Theater, just down the street from my house here in Santa Cruz. She was talking about how the American media has put a veneer on this war that romanicizes it. She compared images from CNN America that showed soilders standing in the sunset, and then she showed images that CNN broadcasted in Iraq of the bodies of dead children, or with limbs blown off. Homes utterly destroyed. One image in particular that made me physically ill was a poor child who had been injured from a bomb, his arm was charred black and his hand had been blown off. Jutting out from the charred black skin was the bone where the upper part of his arm had once been. THIS WAS A CHILD! I saw that and the breath was knocked out of me for a moment. It was horrible. But you know what? These are the images of the Iraq war. This is what we are doing over there. We are killing children. We are maiming children. Over 14,000 Iraqi civilians dead. It’s horrifying. And what do we see in the media? These romanticized pictures of soilders standing in the Sunset. And the young American people we are sending over there…..They are the ones who have to live with the horror of killing these poor innocents. THEY have to live with this. It’s like this one soldier said in MM’s film Farenheight 9/11: “When you kill someone, part of your soul is taken away.”

I’m sorry to get on my soapbox but this whole thing is getting to me. It’s sick. But what is even more sick are the freaking conservative drones that follow Bush and think it’s okay to kill over 14,000 innocent people – including children. People need to wake the hell up in this country! Wake up! This killing has got to stop!

  • How Bush’s grandfather helped Hitler’s rise to power

Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | How Bush’s grandfather helped Hitler’s rise to power

His business dealings, which continued until his company’s assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

The evidence has also prompted one former US Nazi war crimes prosecutor to argue that the late senator’s action should have been grounds for prosecution for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

This is a fascinating article. Apparently, two Halocaust survivors are planning on suing the Bush family for damages since Prescott Bush was in business with some German companies that backed Nazi Germany. The article also says that Grandaddy Bush made most of the family fortune this way.

The reasons for not voting for Bush keep piling up. It’s embarrassing to have a president whose family has a connection to Nazi Germany.

  • Bush policy brings the world on his back

    September 22, 2004

Yahoo! News – Bush policy brings the world on his back

Arrogant, aggressive, too unilateralist are just some of the terms used to describe the US administration.

Opinion polls taken around the world confirmed the dim view of the US leader and his policies, which is most notable among traditional allies in Europe and the Arab world.

Well, no surprise here. I thought his speech to the UN was arrogant. I’m sure the UN delegate thought so too.

  • Fundamentalism, Our Founding Fathers, and Jesus

    September 21, 2004
    John the Baptist baptizing Christ
    Image via Wikipedia

    Congress.Org — Jesus was a liberal

Jesus was quite clear that what he found most upsetting was people using the letter of the law while ignoring the spirit of it. The spirit of the law, according to Jesus, was to love your neighbor. Trying to deny your fellow human beings, including your gay brothers and sisters, equality and marriage rights is not loving them but harming them. You are hypocritical, self-serving, and self-deceiving to think otherwise.

Christians of today should take some lessons from Christ, and treat there fellow humans with love, compassion and understanding. For all the “What Would Jesus Do?” merchandise out there, you’d think a lot more Christians would have really sat down and thought about that one.

This is a great opinion piece. This author speaks my mind completely. I found out about it at Daffodil lane (gotta give em props!) I couldn’t agree more. There is so much hate out there being spat at us by people who claim to be Christians. I don’t understand it at all. Do they truly understand the teachings of Christ? I don’t think they do. I don’t see any love or compassion out of these fundamentalist Christians AT ALL. None. Now, I am really speaking of the those that align themselves with the Bush Administration, the neo-cons, if you will. How can anyone who follows the teachings of Christ align themselves with the Bush agenda?!?

As I mentioned in other posts, I used to be an Evangelical Christian. There were two good things that came out of that time in my life. The first, is that I met my husband at church :). The second is that I studied the bible. I mean, I really really studied it. For about two years I read nothing else but the Bible. And I think that it was a good thing. The Bible is actually a really wonderful book. I hadn’t read it in awhile but opened it up again to respond to this comment. I was reminded of what a wonderful book this is. The advice and teachings in the New Testament are truly words to live by, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. ”, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. ” Those are the words of Christ himself. Do you see any of this behavior from neo-cons? I don’t. I don’t know why they bother calling themselves Christians. They are following a dogma that has been fed to them by The Church, whether it be evangelical or Catholic, or whatever. They are following something that they were told to believe from the pulpit, not by Christ. Pre-emptive war is not Christian-like. Alienating homosexuals and denying them rights is not Christlike. Our job, as Christians, is to love one another. That’s it. God will sort everything else out. God will be the judge. Somehow, that message has been lost to the Christian Fundamentalists. They are so intent on the letter of the law that they are missing the point.

  • Iraq had no WMD: the final verdict

    September 20, 2004

Guardian Unlimited: Iraq had no WMD: the final verdict

President George Bush now admits that stockpiles have not been found in Iraq but claimed as recently as Thursday that “Saddam Hussein had the capability of making weapons, and he could have passed that capability on to the enemy”.

The draft Duelfer report, according to the New York Times, finds no evidence of a capability, but only of an intention to rebuild that capability once the UN embargo had been removed and Iraq was no longer the target of intense international scrutiny.

An intention does not warrant a war. I’m sure there are many countries that intend to do lots of things, but that doesn’t mean we should risk the lives of our young men and women, and the civilians of the country in question. The key word here is “capability”. He (Saddam) did not have the capability to do what he intended to do.

How many people have to come forward with this before we open our eyes? How many ways do we have to be told? Bush got us into a war under false pretenses. And he refuses to back down, even after knowing the truth. And now we are in a huge mess. The people in Iraq are rising up and fighting against the American occupation. We need to get out of there. Too many people have died FOR NOTHING.
