Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

I am reaching a stage in my One Pinhole A Day project where I will need to do some scanning to add to the photos! Dear me. Scanning isn’t my favorite thing. I will try to get to that this weekend, though.

Here is one from December 12. I was shopping in the grocery store in the Christmas aisle. I thought the flashy stuff would make and interesting photo, but kind of forgot I had Lomochrome Purple in my camera.

What is Poetry? By Lawrence Ferlinghetti

    March 21, 2017

I just realized that today is World Poetry Day! So in desperation I searched for something to post and I dug up this gem from a few years ago: my friend and colleague reading “What Is Poetry” by Lawrence Ferlinghetti.   Her husband is on bongos. I’ve posted it before but it’s worth a re-post. It makes me smile when I hear it. 🙂

You can  learn more about Lawrence Ferlinghetti here.

    Reflection

    March 17, 2017

Still working my way through those One Pinhole A Day photos. Here is December 14. I took this while eating lunch at my regular lunch hangout. I was probably eating my usual: grilled cheese and tomato soup.

Here are some random things going on in my head this week:

    • Somehow, over the weekend, I found myself deep in a pretty bad depression. I am finally coming out of it, but wow. It wasn’t fun. I think I am feeling very overwhelmed with the world lately and everything hit me the wrong way.
    • During this episode I was having insomnia and I took melatonin to help me sleep. This was a very bad idea. It made me super sleepy and drowsy, even after having 9 hours of sleep. And it kind of made the depression more difficult to work through (mostly because I was so tired).
    • I was curious about melatonin so I did some research and found some really interesting articles about it, especially this one in the NYT (thanks to Inge!).
    • In my research I found out how to use melatonin to combat jet lag.
    • I also found this quiz to help you figure out what kind of sleeper you are.  I “found out” that I am a “strong morning” person (I already knew this). But it was really cool to read about this and how my body naturally readies itself for bed at a particular time. I always thought this was something I trained myself to do but it looks like it’s more biological. Interesting stuff! The article also talks about using chronotherapy as a treatment for depression.
    • Totally unrelated to sleep, I read this blog post today about right action during troubled times and it made me feel a bit better.

    About the photo:

It was made with a Holga WPC and Lomochrome Purple film.

    ZooLights

    March 10, 2017

A few day before Christmas my Husband and I decided to go to the ZooLights holiday extravaganza at the Oregon Zoo in Portland. We got there about an hour before sunset so we had the advantage of wandering through the zoo to see the animals before the light show.

But then the sun went down and the lights came up! And the show began. I brought my pinhole camera and had the patience to make two exposures. One of them is the featured image for this post, the second I will talk more about below.

Here are a few iPhone snaps.

And here is the second pinhole shot from the evening (below). It’s amazing because for this shot I was inside this enclosure for at least 3 minutes with a few dozen people at any given moment during the shot. It was a busy through way and tight squeeze. I was curious to see how my shot would turn out. I was surprised to see that nobody appears in the picture!!

For both of these shots an Ondu MK2 6×6 and Kodak Portra 160 was used.
