Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    This is not normal

    February 13, 2017

So I had my nice respite from the news yesterday but then in the evening after dinner I relaxed on the couch, opened Twitter, and saw this tweet from 45. It bothered me. Not because he seems overly concerned with his popularity (seriously. Why does he have to point this out at every turn?!?) Not because this is a  lie (They were mostly protesters). And not because he tweets way too much (Jesus.  Get off the fucking phone. You are the fucking president now.) These are all important reasons to be annoyed. No. The thing that annoys me about this tweet, is the “fake news” claim. He keeps calling the legitimate media fake news. I do. not. like. this. It is scary. I keep hearing him say it, over and over again. Like he is trying to brainwash us. Like he is trying to normalize this idea. This is not normal. The media are doing their jobs, reporting things that should be reported. If he doesn’t like the things that are being reported then he needs to stop doing questionable things.

And, just to remind myself, I am going to leave this here.

    In the US Holocaust Museum.

    currently obsessed with clothes

    February 12, 2017

Today I discovered this concept of the Capsule Wardrobe and am completely obsessed. I’ve spent the day throwing out tons of clothes and adding other items to my wish list, based on suggestions from this book.

Honestly it’s a nice diversion from current events. I think I’ve been suffering from outrage fatigue (I don’t know if that’s a real thing but it is a pretty apt description of how I feel).

  • Good Books: March Trilogy

    Good Books: March Trilogy

    February 11, 2017

32003174244_7c486e7080_zI picked up March: Book One the other day and enjoyed it so much that I picked up book 2 today. March is a graphic novel trilogy about Congressman John Lewis’s life and involvement in the Civil Rights movement. The third book in the trilogy won several book awards this year: The National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, The Corretta Scott King award, the Michael L. Printz award, and the Sibert Medal.  This is how it finally got on my radar. It floated through my life but I finally paid attention last month when it won so many awards at the ALA conference! (it is very rare for one book to win multiple awards in a year).

I can see why it is so highly regarded. First of all, the art (by Nate Powell) is stunning. But really, the whole story is extraordinarily inspiring. And especially so now in our current time. We are facing a time of dissent that will be written in the history books and it is important to look to those that came before us and how they went about their protests.

John Lewis is an American hero and, honestly, anyone who writes their biography in graphic novel format is a badass.

    Weeding

    February 10, 2017

Today’s photoblog post revisits my One Pinhole A Day project. I brought my camera to work with me and pinholed the books piling up on the book truck as I weeded them.

You can follow more of this project on my photography website’s blog.

I am feeling very foggy brained today and have nothing to offer except this: I figured out how to make a gif out of a live photo! AND I can use it as a featured photo on WordPress!! \o/
