Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    May postcard swap

    May 5, 2016

I am a bit late getting this up, but The May postcard swap is now live! Fill out the form below to participate. On the 15th you will be assigned a person to send a postcard of your original photography to, and you will get a postcard from somebody else.

This month’s card comes from Jim Grey from the blog Down The Road. He is a long-time blogger, like me and posts several times a week on all kinds of subjects (like me also). He often posts really great reviews of old cameras, which I especially love. You should check out his blog!

    Do the things

    May 4, 2016

There is a patron at the library whom I’ve helped several times a week for six years (since I started working at my current job). It strange how you get to know a person when you interact with them daily. Our relationship is purely professional, yet, I still kind of care about this person on a personal level. The past few weeks I have noticed that he has aged about 20 years. It all seems to be happening very quickly. One day he was fine, the next day he was hunched over, could barely walk without holding on to something. He is in a lot of pain. I helped him a few weeks ago and asked him how he was doing and he talked to me about being ready do die, to see his loved ones on the other side. I don’t know what is wrong with him, but I can see with my own eyes that he is dying. This has been weighing heavily on me these past few weeks, even while I was on my vacation. I will be very surprised if he is still around when I return to work next week. The sad thing about this person is that he has been researching and talking about buying a new car and going on a road trip across America for six years. He finally bought his dream van a few months ago and has been getting it all fixed up. And now this.

I had this conversation with friends over a late night sangria while I was in Spain, and we all agreed: Do the things. Just get out there and do them. Don’t wait. Do them now.

I am so grateful to have met so many wonderful people all over the world who share my passion for pinhole photography. I am not sure how exactly we figured out to meet up two years ago when we first met up in Amsterdam on pinhole day. I know it started as a joke, but somehow it became a reality, and now it is an annual thing and it is fantastic. I am so glad I took a step in the direction of my dreams and didn’t wait. Amsterdam could have just been left at being a joke. I am so glad we decided to take the idea seriously.

I spent 28 hours in airports and on airplanes yesterday. I am feeling a weird kind of floaty feeling, having been on an airplane for so long. I woke up this morning not knowing where I was. Time travel is awesome, but it wreaks havoc on the body. I am sad to be home. I have to now go back to my normal routine and I am not sure how I feel about that. My head is not happy. My heart aches. But my body needs its routine.

    Irish countryside

    May 1, 2016

Today we left the city and drove to the countryside where we visited the site of a medieval town. We took a tour of a castle and climbed around on ruins that are hundreds (notice that is plural) of years old. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the age of these structures having grown up in the Pacific Northwest where we don’t have this at all. It is a beautiful place.

    Pubs & churches

    May 1, 2016

Yesterday our hosts took us into the city and we had an epic day of seeing several Dublin landmarks.

It was awesome! I’m still kind of processing all of it in my head. Here are a few snapshots.
