I heard about this on the radio this morning and just shook my head:
Vice President Dick Cheney says he has the power to declassify government secrets, raising the possibility that he authorized his former chief of staff to pass along sensitive prewar data on Iraq to reporters.
You have got to be kidding. You know where this is going, right? That this could be the possible talking point on Cheney being implicated in the Valerie Plame problem. So the Vice-president can declassiffy information in order to seek revenge on somebody who speaks out againist the Bush administration. I don’t think, if this really is the case, that was the intent of this law. It is sickening how lawless this administration is.
Oh, and the shooting. ugh. There are so many questions that come up with regard to it, that I don’t know if I want to go there. Rest assured, though, he probably won’t be prosecuted for it. If anyone else were to be in this situation, they would have to suffer the consequenses, accident or not. The important thing about this whole thing, to me, is not that he took so long to say something about it (although, that is a problem). To me, the issue is that HE SHOT SOMEONE. The freaking vice-president of the United States shot someone. WTF? It’s just insane.
