Hillary Clinton, First Lady & U.S. Senator
Image via Wikipedia

Like everyone else, I heard the news over the weekend that Hillary Clinton is going to run for President. Before her announcement, when everyone was speculating, I wasn’t really excited about her. I definately think we need a woman president. Don’t get me wrong about that. We are long overdue for a woman president. But is Ms. Clinton the right one?

After she announced the idea has kind of been percolating in my brain. I’m still not convinced that she is the best candidate. But I am finding myself kind of excited that she’s running. And it wouldn’t be bad if she won. Not at all. How awesome would it be if Bill Clinton was the First Gentleman? I think she has some good ideas. The roadblock, as always, is Iraq. She voted for Iraq. There’s no getting around that.

We’ll see how this all goes. One thing is for sure, it’s going to get interesting, indeed.

I don’t think Democrats should be beating themselves up over the Iraq war. They were not in a position to have stopped the war and still aren’t now that they are back in the majority in the legislature. Yes, it was clear to me at the time that it was a bad idea to go bombing people into freedom (as it almost always is), but vote was an impossible trap for both Hillary and Kerry. It also seems clear that the worst part of this foolishness in Iraq, is that it has continued to be so poorly executed. That poor execution is in the details and no one in the legislature could have fixed it. Worse, for the new candidates, they really cannot even begin to articulate alternative plans in any meaningful way until they win and have a chance to look at all the chess pieces.
…personally, I think Hillary’s major weakness is that she is a little too wooden and so her premeditation on issues comes off as being cold and scheming, especially in contrast to Bill who seemed to effortlessly charm his way into the right thing to do.

I agree with you about her being wooden. I haven’t like the answers she has given to some questions posed by regular people. She never seems to answer them and she dances around them. I don’t like that. But, then, that’s a politician for you.
