Crafty Monday: Jess

I FINALLY finished Jess! Here she is! Yay!

This was the Sweater That Would Never End. I started it at the end of August and I was so tempted so many times to just put it down. And I did do that a few times, being distracted by a few other projects. But I decided to just plow through this sucker so I could get the thing done. It was boring to knit. Endless stockinette, with a little bit of ribbing thrown in. And it is knit really big, due to the yarn shrinkage. So it is A LOT of stockinette. A LOT. It got kind of old.

Also, I am not used to seaming. I can’t even remember the last time I seamed a sweater. I think it was a year an a half ago. Maybe? I don’t know. I’ve been knitting most of my recent sweaters in the round, which I prefer doing, btw. I did a horrid seaming job on the raglan seams. I’m not proud of it. I don’t know what I was thinking. Seaming the arm/side took FOREVER. As did sewing the button band up the endless fronts. It took two days to do the first button band! But, then I was sick and needed several napping breaks. So that could be why. Oh, and regarding the sewing of the button band. I did a horrid job on that, as well. I mattress stitched it while the directions said to slip stitch it. I didn’t know how to slip stitch with regard to knitting and I was too lazy to look it up. I regret that now because the button band doesn’t lay flat.

When I was finally at the finish line, the ribbing for the collar, I was so happy. I couldn’t wait to get that last 8 centimeters done! When I finished I was going to just immediately cast off but something told me to glance at the directions and I’m glad I did. Apparently The collar is lined with stockinette stitch. ugh. So stockinette it was for another 8 centimeters.

I was a little freaked out by how huge it was after I knitted it. It could have fit an extra large man, it was so big. I threw it in the wash on hot (the hand wash cycle). Then I threw it in the dryer on HOT. And Lo and Behold! The thing shrank! It actually shrank to fit! The sleeves are a little long, but I like them. They come up past my wrists witch works for me in our chilly library.

I sewed the buttons on after I washed it and I’m not super hip on them. I’m wearing the sweater today and the buttons keep unbuttoning. I think they might be too small. So I may replace them in the near future.

So, to sum up: Success! I love it! Here is my Ravelry page if you are so inclined.

So now it is November and time for NaKniSweMo. I don’t know if I’m going to do this. I’m kind of burnt out on sweater knitting, as you can imagine. At the moment I’m working on some mittens and I’m happy with them. I do have some sweaters in my queue that I would like to start at some point so I may cast on but I don’t know if I’m up for any pressure. As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been really sick so all of my NaMO plans were kicked to the curb last week. I’m just trying to concentrate on getting healthy again.
