Doug on Memorial Day

Books, Music, Art, Movies, Life

So as you walk out the door
Take care, and always be sure
That the ones in your life
Know that you love them tonight
Fate has one guarantee
And we all must agree
That the best laid plans
May all change by tomorrow

God willing, It’s the last time I’ll say goodbye
God willing, I’ll see you on the other side
It’s the last time I’ll put my arms around you
The last time I’ll look into your eyes
I’ve come here to put my arms around you
And say one final goodbye

– “God Willing” by Dropkick Murphys.

This song has been running through my head all week.

I’ve been haunted by that last night with my Step-dad when he was in the last stages of his life so I thought it might help to find photos of him when he was alive and happy. It has helped immensely. I found some really great pictures. I’ll post them soon. there is one, especially, that I love and has a funny story behind it. I also found this one. It’s the last picture I took of him. It was taken this last Memorial day.

P.S. Thank you so much for you good thoughts and comforting words. I can express enough how much I appreciate them.

  1. Moni: I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Step-Dad. What beautiful lyrics in this blog post! Think you are dealing with grief in a positive way by sharing.
