Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

I wrote a blog post on my photography blog about a recent film swap. Check it out! I will get back to blogging more soon. I have been sick for most of the month and am trying to focus my energy on getting better.

    Winter Storm

    December 23, 2013

    The waves are breaking.
    The tumultuous sea
    Stirs up primordial creatures
    From deep below.
    They frighten me
    But I dive deeper.
    I swim to the bottom
    To the ocean floor
    Where I find buried
    Deep in the sand
    A jewel.

*This poem is based on a dream I had a couple of years ago.

  • More postcards!

    December 20, 2013

    20131220-113816.jpg

I received two more postcards in the mail the other day! One from Alex from the U.K. You can find his wonderful photography at his website. He is also the proprietor of Pinholista.com. I also got a card from Lacey, the instigator of this whole thing. She originally brought this idea to my attention. You can find her work at her website, Ladukephoto.com.

I send out my postcards Monday and I am having a blast seeing them arrive at their destinations! This project is making me so happy. I am actually enjoying the mail again!

  • Pioneer to the falls

    Pioneer to the falls

    December 18, 2013

The first time I heard this song was in October of 2007.  I’d heard the news that my step-brother was found hanging from a tree, alone in the wilderness of Idaho that morning. I wasn’t particularly close to my step-brother but, still, the news cut deep. I was living in Spokane at the time and walked to work. It was a 45 minute walk and I’d just bought the latest Interpol album: Our Love To Admire.   I thought I’d listen to it on my way to work. The song, Pioneer to the Falls came on and there was something about the haunting lyrics coupled with the suicide of my step-brother that brought me to a sobbing mess of tears before I made it to work.

I love this song, though it doesn’t make me cry like it once did. I just think it is an incredibly beautiful song with beautiful lyrics. It evokes a story  in my soul that I can’t quite suss out completely. It is a story from a dream that is  there but not quite there at the same time.

I randomly grabbed this video off of Youtube and I  love it. It is comprised of scenes from one of my favorite films: Once Upon A Time In The West.

  • Timex Glasses

    Timex Glasses

    December 16, 2013

I was an awkward child. I didn’t learn how to ride a bike until I was in second grade which was well past the ages of my friends. When It finally clicked for me on that fateful fall day I was hooked. I rode my bike everywhere. I was always awkward on it though. Always a bit unsure of myself.

One day I was at a track meet at the local high school with my family. I rode my bike there and was tooling around the premises when I encountered some kids who were older than me and who I felt intimidated by. I was nervous as I was riding past them and because of my nervousness I forgot how to steer my bike. I found myself pointed toward a steep, rocky hill leading down to the track. Before I could remember how to use the pedals to brake I was flying down the hill. I vaguely remember trying to dodge rocks as I careened faster and faster to the bottom. When I reached it I crash-landed and flew off my bike.

The track meet stopped and every adult in the vicinity surrounded me to see if I was ok. I was ok. I was scraped up and bruised but nothing was broken. I was more embarrassed than anything else. My glassed flew off my face during all of this and I couldn’t see without them. I mentioned this and they were found by an adult, completely intact. I remember one of them joking, “She must have Timex glasses,” referring to their popular slogan “It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.”
Much like that awkward little girl on the bike.
