Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    Vista party 12/12/12
I did a lot of stapling yesterday.

I have been helping on the  most amazing project the past few months and it all came to fruition yesterday! I breifly mentioned the kids from the after-school program I do once a week in a post from a couple of weeks ago. This year we wanted to do something really special with them. I have been very interested in bookmaking and zines for quite a while and thought it might be fun to create a zine with this group. Actually, my colleague came up with the idea first, but it had also been on my mind as well (we talked about kid zines in a previous conversation). It ended up being a really fun project and it happened a lot more quickly than I expected! Each week we went up there and we had the kids write poems, draw pictures, and tell us stories (that we transcribed). We then compiled them into a little booklet. Yesterday was our big unveiling and presentation.

    The unveiling!

I am SO proud of them! I continue to be blown away by their creativity. I hope that this is the first of many issues. We decided on “Animals” as a theme this time. We got really awesome and varied stories, from fantasies about unicorns, to real stories from their past. They were all so fantastic. I love these kids.

    Grandpa and Grandma Smith.
    Grandpa and Grandma Smith.

These are my dad’s parents, Grandpa and Grandma Smith. I loved my Granny Franny. She was my last grandmother to depart and I got to spend some good time with her before she died. I loved taking her out to lunch when I was up from California visiting my parents. My Grandpa Jim died of leukemia when I was a teen and he was always really quiet. I didn’t know him very well. I regret not getting to know him better.  I recently learned that he was a descendant  of Huguenots, and that my ancestors from his side fled religious persecution in France. Interesting!  I would like to learn more about that bit of history.

I realize that I look a lot like him. We have the same color eyes and the same tight-lipped smile.

  • Running Update

    Tickle Creek Trail today.

Another milestone run today. At 6.84 miles I can now say I have run my farthest distance. I ran 10k and walked 5 minutes both before and after. I am really tired. My legs hurt. And I am ravenous. But I did it! I feel great, otherwise.

This is a very challenging distance for me. I’ve decided to hang out here for awhile. I want to get used to running 10k. I think I will use the next year to run some races.
