Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

  • Weekly Photo Challenge: Fleeting Moment

    July 5, 2012

I’ve been forgetting about the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge. This week’s challenge is “Fleeting Moment.” The challenge is to capture a moment on the street, but I offer, instead, a fleeting moment on the beach!

This was taken this past Easter with my old Pentax P30 and some T-Max film. A couple rode by me on bikes and I quickly snapped this shot.

This is what I wrote on the Flickr page, where I first posted it:

I am not very good at the ninjasnap because I am a wee bit shy (ok maybe more than a wee bit). But I ninjsnapped this person and he smiled at me and it made me feel good.

  • I need more days like today.

    July 4, 2012

My friend Susie invited Raf and I to go hiking with her and her hiking group today. We hiked the Burnt Lake Trail on Mt. Hood and had a blast. The people we met today were really cool. I brought my Pentax and some expired film with me. I will pos the photos when I get them developed.

  • Plinky Prompt: Before the Internet

    July 3, 2012

    My old Mac SE/30

Yes, I do remember the days before I got the internet at home. I am actually THAT old! I got the internet in my home when I was thirty. Before that I had to access it at school.

Before Internet I spent a lot of time with friends. I went out for coffee, I went out dancing, I went to shows. I was a very social person. I always liked to have something lined up almost every night of the week. This was before I met Raf. But even then, when we were dating we would go out every night. When I wasn't going out I watched television or read or played computer games on my Mac SE.

The thing that I notice about my life now is that I am much lazier about my social interactions. It is super easy to interact with other humans online so that is what I do. I think this has become commonplace. It's sad, frankly. I miss the in-person socializing that I used to do. Online socializing has caused us to create facades that are hard to read. When you meet someone in person you see the real person. I miss that.

  • Smoked Salmon

    July 1, 2012

    20120701-183921.jpg
It’s funny how things work out sometimes in ways you don’t expect. Sometimes this happens in big ways and your whole life may change. Sometimes it happens in little ways and your day changes. Today I had the latter experience.

We decided to drive to Wahclella Falls on the Columbia Gorge for a short jaunt, just to get out the house. When we got there the parking lot was completely full and cars were lining the street outside the park. Ugh. We had completely forgotten that It was 4th of July weekend (essentially). We decided we needed to change plans and pulled into the nearby fish hatchery’s parking lot to consult the hiking book I brought: Curious Gorge (highly recommended btw). Instead of opting for another hike nearby we decided to explore our surroundings. I am so glad we did. Were there a ton of people and was I tempted to get irritated by them? Yes I was. Did I? No I didn’t. I made a choice not to and decided to go with the flow to see what the day would bring.

As we wandered around I was reminded of my Grandpa Ed and how much he loved to fish. He used to catch Rainbow Trout and would smoke them in the smokehouse behind my grandparent’s house. He built this smokehouse himself! I thought about how incredibly cool that is. I never appreciated it before now. The salmon that he smoked there was utterly, out-of-this-world amazing. I miss it. And I miss him, very much. It was really sweet to think about him today.

We found ourselves in the gift shop and I bought some smoked salmon. I am enjoying it right now as I type this. It is nowhere near as good as my Grandpa Ed’s. Doesn’t come close. But it will suffice.
