Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

  • On being a cog in the machine

Did I mention that I really like Natalie Goldberg? I do. Today I read about how she has dozens of notebooks filled with crap from when she lived in Taos and felt like she had nothing to write about but she wrote anyway because somewhere under that surface ennui there is something that needs to come out. That is exactly how I feel at the moment. I feel like I am supposed to write. I’m a frustrated writer working as a librarian. I am not doing the job I feel I was put on this earth to do. But I am so out of practice that I don’t know even where to begin. So I am going to just write crap until it becomes natural. Until good stuff comes out.

So lets talk about that ennui. I feel numb on the surface. I feel like I’m just drifting through life like a ghost. I am a cog in the machine. And I don’t like it at all. I want to be doing something. Anything. Traveling. Inventing. Coming up with brilliant things to say. But I’m not doing that. I’m just a cog. I’m a nobody. Just a worker bee. A rat in a cage.

What the hell happened with my life? “how did I get here,” to quote Talking Heads. How? When I was in my early twenties I had big dreams. I had things to say. I had something inside of me that wanted to come out. I felt creative. Somewhere along the way that feeling was deadened inside of me. I’m 40 now and I have become like everyone else. A working stiff. A zombie. How does this happen? How dare society take those dreams away from me! I am bitter about this.

Why have I let societal pressure decide my fate? It’s like the whole buying a house thing. I thought, for years, that I had to buy a house. My dream was to buy a house. I wasn’t a human being until I bought a house. So I bought a house. I moved away from my favorite fucking place in the whole world, moved back to a place that I loathe, so that I could buy a fucking house. And what did I learn? That a house is not the be all and end all. A house is not, by any stretch of the imagination, going to make me happy at all. And it doesn’t. In fact, it kind of causes me more pain than pleasure. It feels like a ball and chain. I don’t care about the security. I would rather not have to deal with all of the responsibility of owning a house. Now I’m stuck in Spokane because I bought my fucking house. BFD. So, yeah, that so-called “American dream” is a piece of shit. I was totally duped into that. that’s for sure.

Note from the future (9.9.2011): post goes on, venting and blathering. We’ll just delete and end it here. There. All better.

Fascinating article about ghostwriting written by Scott Westerfield.

I don’t know why, but I thought this was amusing. Come to think of it, I don’t really know why I care.

This is an interesting website about an early photo of Lincoln.

You have got to be kidding me.

This is interesting.. I still need to try the Kindle Ap for my iPod. Better do it sooner rather than later.  And why didn’t they target Amazon instead, as the writer asks?

    LOL.

Yikes. I hope my sister is O.K. She lives in Fairbanks.

I giggled when I read this post at Fussy.org. Wow. You really need to peruse the Flylady‘s site. I’ve never seen anything like it.  There are no words.

This is really sad news about Nicholas Hughes, son of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes.

  • Crafty Monday: Wisp

    March 23, 2009

I whipped this up in a few days. It’s Wisp from the Summer 2007 issue of Knitty. I wanted to knit it as practice for a possible gift. I think it turned out cute and I will go ahead and knit it for it’s intended recipient. I love that it can be worn several ways. In the picture to the left I wrapped it around my neck and buttoned it in front.

In the picture on the right I buttoned it along the opposite side, thus securing it nicely around my shoulders. The buttons are from JoAnns and were not very expensive. They are shell buttons. The yarn is Kidsilk Haze. I have to admit, and I may be committing knitting blasphemy by saying this, but I am kind of weary of this yarn. It’s beautiful yarn but I’m soo sick of this color. I already made a shawl out of it and had some left over.

I bought another ball of this color thinking I would make a Mason-Dixon Cardi Cozy. When I learned that it takes more than 2 balls ( a lot more. I should have been able to use my noggin and figure it out. I knew that sounded too good to be true.) I got kind of frustrated and put the yarn away in the closet. So I dug it out again last weekend to try out this pattern. And I STILL have another ball left. ugh.

Here’s the Ravelry info if you want the details.

All in all, I am happy with the project. It was very easy and quick. I will probably get lots of use out of it since it is so versatile.

    Prayer Flags

    March 20, 2009

This is a prayer flag that I have hanging in back yard. I like taking pictures of these. They make good subjects.

I got some close-up filters for my Monster Lens for my birthday last week and tried them out on things in my backyard. I like ’em! I haven’t had the inspiration to take much else since last Friday though. Things are looking nicer outside so perhaps sometime this week.

  • What’s going on

I’m totally ripping this off from Dianne from her  Daffodil Lane days (also the proprietess of  Dianne’s Dishes).  She would post links to some news around the interwebz that caught her eye. I’ve always thought that was a cool idea (come to think of it, I’ve seen in in lots of other places, Allie’s Answers and Mellowtrouble come to mind) and I’m thinking I’ll do this on Wednesdays.

O.k. How pissed off are we getting about the A.I.G. fiasco? Personally, my blood is boiling. There is a culture of greed in this country that really needs to go away.

I want to make yarn out of plastic grocery bags and weave fabric out of it to make this bag (scroll down a bit).

This is a horribly sad story. I really thought she was a great actress and so young! ugh. another reason why I won’t ever ski again. It really is a dangerous sport. I’m always hearing about deaths on the ski slopes.

This is also a sad local story. The moose and her calf were actually wandering around my Dad’s neighborhood a week ago and nibbled on the plants in thier yard. The “accident” actually took place in front of my brother’s work. He told me the whole story last weekend. It was really upsetting to the people who witnessed it, especially the kids in the daycare next door.

I’m not happy that off-duty cops in this town can shoot someone in the back of the head while they are running away from them and then get off scott- free.

However, it is possible that justice will be served.

Oh! Did you hear the story about the cat stuck in the sofa?
