Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

  • A view from Mt. Spokane

    September 26, 2005

We drove to the top of Mt. Spokane and hiked around up there yesterday. Here is a shot of the view from where we were. We are looking out over the Washington State scablands (I think).

When we go on these hikes and climb to the top of a peak, we expect to see the Pacfic Ocean 😦 .

  • Kira-Kira

    September 24, 2005

Kira-Kira (Newbery Medal Book)I’ve decided that I am going to try to read as many Newberry Award winners as I can as a way to become familiar with some Juvenile fiction authors. I started with the winner for 2005, Kira-Kira.

It’s the story about an asian girl living in Georgia who experiences the death of her older sister, whom she is very close to. It’s a sad story, but it also is very hopeful. The family is struggling in so many ways. They are minorities, and they struggle with that reality. They struggle to get by financially. And, most importantly, they are dealing with the sickness and demise of the older sister. Yet the story is very hopeful and positive, in the end.

That’s about all I have to say about that.

  • The Subtle Knife

    September 19, 2005

The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials, Book 2)I finished listening to The Subtle Knife this morning. Three books in one weekend is seriously a record for me 🙂 .

I’ve read this before but listening to it was such a wonderful experience. Definately a class-act job of recording this book. There are several actors who play the parts of the various characters in the book.

The books, in my opinion get progressively bolder, and better, as they move through the trilogy. The first book feels like a fairy tale. It’s a great story, but the real plot of the epic is not revealed until the second book. In the second book it is revealed that war is being waged against The Authority or God. And it’s a good thing. The protagonists are the ones chosen to begin this war.

The last few pages of the book are the best. So well written and beautifully executed. I don’t want to give anything away by telling you what happens.
