Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

  • Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

    September 18, 2005

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)I just now finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Finally! I have to say that I’m not really surprised. When Rowlings said that somebody was going to die (in the series) I knew in the back of my mind who it would be. And I also had a feeling about the person who killed the person who died, also.

    Was that ambiguous enough?

Oh, and two books finished in one weekend! woohoo! that’s prolly a record for me.

  • Lemony Snicket, The bad beginning

    September 18, 2005

The Bad Beginning (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 1)I read the first Lemony Snicket book last night when I got home from work. I was so proud of myself, actually getting through one of these in one sitting! I’m a slow reader and really need to pick up the pace a bit with this job. What did I think? Loved it. I couldn’t put it down, really. The premise is a little depressing, but the author kind of uses humor to make it fun. I like how the author defines difficult words in the text, in the context of the characters and the story. Will definately be reading the other Lemony Snicket books. The are very popular with the kids.

  • Time slips by

    September 18, 2005

Wow! I can’t believe I let all of those days slip by without posting. Time got away from me this week.

I did want to post something on friday and I didn’t. I wanted to make a note that my first storytime ever went very well! Not at all as scary as I thought it would be. And I had lots of fun doing it. I think it might even be the highlight of my job 🙂 Yay!

I was also thinking about documenting some of the things that I’ve been doing for my job. I wanted a place to post the books I’ve been reading, just to kind of keep track of them, and I wanted to post pictures of the bulletin boards I’ve done. Just as a way to see how I’m doing, how I can get better, etc.

I was thinking about creating a whole new blog for this, but am realizing that I’m kind of lazy. I think I will post this stuff here. Do you mind too much? i hope not.

    Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

  • hopeful

    September 12, 2005

I meant to post something about 9/11/2001 yesterday and I didn’t. I don’t know why. I just didn’t have the words. What else is there to say about it? It was a horrible day. And now we are dealing with something that seems even worse than the terrorist attacks. It’s painful.

So Raf and I went for a walk at Riverside State Park. This time we turned right instead of left and we came upon the scene you see here. There was a devastating fire here about 10 years ago that decimated the forest. But as we walked along, I saw all of these baby trees growing up in clumps, covering up areas that had been bare for so many years. There was something about that that made me feel good. As I walked along and saw these trees I felt a sense of hopefulness for the future.

Perhaps these little baby trees are a metaphor for what is going on in our world right now. The optimist in me wants to believe it. But I am impatient, too. I want things to be better now. Yesterday, really.

Look how long it has taken for these little trees to take root. Ten years ago this fire happened, and it is now only begining to regenerate itself. But sometime in the future, when I am dead and gone, this will be a beautiful forest again, with gorgeous meadows where the trees didn’t grow back.

I’m not sure what I’m trying to say here..I guess these are just some of the thoughts floating around in my head after my walk yesterday.
