Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    Reset

    May 10, 2016

While I was away I stopped doing almost all of the things that are a part of my daily routine. I didn’t meditate. I didn’t read. I didn’t draw (despite my best intentions).  I didn’t run. I didn’t do yoga.

Not doing these things for two weeks has been interesting. The first jetlagged week back I moved about my surroundings in a haze of blissful detachment. In the haze I thought about the things that I practice everyday. I wondered what things are really important and necessary. I wondered any of it really is necessary. Yes, even the meditation. In that haze I felt like it is all just “stuff I do to get through.” If that makes any sense at all.

I feel like I hit the reset button on my free time. I have been thinking about the this idea of the 10,000 hours and how I want to spend that time. One of the aspects of the 10,000 hours is the fact that you have to love what you are doing for all of those hours (otherwise you wouldn’t be able to commit to all of that time).

I am thinking here about my drawing hobby. I barely picked up a pen the entire time I was on vacation. If I really loved drawing I would have carved out the time to draw. But I didn’t. This makes me wonder if this hobby is really something I’m serious about, and if not, do I want to spend my free time doing it? The fact is that I enjoy doing it, but I don’t see myself ever creating paintings. I enjoy doodling in the sketchbook, and that is where my interest ends.

Should I continue with it? Is my heart really in it? I don’t know.

    A new toy

    May 9, 2016

I bought an Apple Watch! I didn’t spend as much money as I saved for my vacation so I decided to splurge on one with my leftover savings. When I was in Barcelona my Fitbit Charge practically disintegrated off my my wrist so I was ready for an upgrade. I waffled between the Apple Watch and a Fitbit Blaze and decided on the Apple, mostly for asthetic reasons and the fact that it can do more than track fitness.

I got it yesterday afternoon and have been obsessively playing with it, getting the apps that will give me the same kind of feedback I had with the Fitbit. I think I’m nearly there!

I really like it though, and am glad I got it. I’m a little sad to be leaving Fitbit since the app has been a constant companion for 2 years. But the Apple is going to be great. 🙂

    Twin Peaks Tourists

    May 8, 2016

My touristing isn’t done, this week! On the way home from Redmond we stopped by some famous places from the 90’s cult classic television show, Twin Peaks. The featured photo is the delicious cherry pie I had at the Double R Diner. OMG. It was the best $5 I’ve ever spent.

    Here are some more snaps.

Here are the falls featured in the opening credits.

    The Double R Diner!

What a fun little diversion! It got us out of Seattle traffic on our drive home and I got to eat some damn good cherry pie.

    Slowing The Selfie opening

    May 7, 2016

I think yesterday evening might have been one of my proudest moments. I saw my photos hanging on a wall. I saw people walking up to them and looking at them. It was amazing, and beyond words. I can’t say it enough: I am so honored to be a part of this, and to be among such talented photographers. What a tremendous opportunity.

Here are some iPhone snaps from the evening.

Self reclining on couch – #pinhole self portrait

    May 6, 2016

This afternoon I will be driving up to the Seattle area for the opening of Slowing The Selfie , a photography show of pinhole self portraits by PNW pinhole photographers. Three of my photos will be in that show. I am very, very honored to be a part of it. Also looking forward to hanging out with some good friends.

The show is at VALA Eastside in Redmond, WA and the opening is tonight from 6-8 pm. Do stop by if you are in the area!! More info can be found on their website.

This is not one of the photos in the show. This is a self portrait from my “Sheet A Day” project (in which I shot one sheet of 4×5 film a day in my Zero 45).

I’ve been struggling with jet lag the past few days and this was me, basically, at 8:00 pm last night. I passed out hard.
