I visit Timberline Lodge often and it is near and dear to my heart. I knew, when I started playing around with pinhole photography, that I wanted it to be the subject of some pinhole photographs.

Apparently I visited Timberline lodge when I was younger but I have no memory of it at all. So my first remembered trip to Timberline Lodge was in 2009, a few months before I moved here. I fell completely in love with Mount Hood during that trip. At the time, I had no idea I would move here two months later. Sometimes I still can’t believe I live here, close enough to drive up there any time I want.

If you are ever visiting Portland a visit to the Timberline Lodge is a must. If you can stay there, even better. It’s a little pricey though. When Raf and I stayed there we were in the hostel-style rooms. They were rather rustic accommodations and the bathrooms are shared with other floor-mates. But it was fun! Still a bit spendy for what we got but, in the end, worth it.

Timberline Lodge was used for the outside shots of the Overlook Hotel in The Shining, so it has a kind of creepy feel to it. It is also very cozy though. Every single thing in that place is hand made, from floor to ceiling. And hand made by local artisans. (The Shining features the beautiful drive up to the lodge in the opening scenes).

Timberline Lodge is an entry on the wonderful website Atlas Obscura. The Mr introduced me to this site a month ago and I love it. I want t visit all of these places and take a pinhole photograph and document it on my other blog. Today was my first entry.
