Goodbye 2016

Life

Last month, after the devastating election results, I had dinner with a couple of wonderful women at a friend’s house. After dinner my friend wanted to do an activity. She had this fun paper with a rainbow printed on it as background decoration. She wanted us to make a list of all of the good things that happened this past year. She thought this was a great way to get our minds off of the possibly terrifying future.  It totally worked. As soon as I started writing I could think of dozens of really great things that I experienced in 2016.

Starting with the death of David Bowie and ending with the death of Princess Leia, with Brexit and Trump in between, we have all been through a lot of bad stuff.  If I can be honest, this is probably only the beginning of our troubles since we are facing 4 years of god knows what. However, instead of reliving the awful things (as our brains are biologically programmed to do) I would prefer to rise up against my lizard brain and look at the positive.

So  here we go. The good parts of 2016, with pictures. (It probably goes without saying, but click the photo for details)

In January I had a really fun meetup in Portland with my #PinholeMayhem gals. It was a beautiful sunny day.
I did a lot of drawing this past year and then lost my mojo. I am hoping to pick up the pen again in 2017.
In March I got to meet my internet friend Peter DeGraff in person!
Pinhole day in Barcelona was unforgettable. I really hope to return to that city again someday.
We had an amazing weekend in Dublin in April/May that went by way too fast! Really looking forward to a return trip that will be longer.
In May and June my pinhole photos were in a show called “Slowing the Selfie!”
I fell in love with a baby bunny
I ran a half marathon in September!!
In October I started my “One Pinhole A Day” Project
My design was used for the T-shirts at my Zen Center. Honestly, this might be my proudest moment of the year for reasons I should write about on the blog.
in December I found this 13 year old unfinished cross stitch project and I FINALLY finished it. I feel like this was a good way to end the year.

Here’s hoping 2017 will be equally as great, if not a million times better.

  2. Happy New Year – sounds like, despite it being 2016, you had a pretty good year.

    I just read that conversation in the comments of your post-election blog – intense! But it too worked out better than it looked like it would. In thanks largely to you being the person you are.
