Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    Burning bush

No deep thoughts running through my head today. Instead, here is an episode of Flickr Time Machine! This was not taken on October 4th. It was actually taken on October 2nd, 2008. However, I saw this photo and it triggered memories of the last Presidential Election. I took this photo on my way to the car at work. The library I worked at has beautiful, colorful trees in the fall and I took  every opportunity to photograph them. I was anxious to get home that evening to watch the presidential debate between Obama and McCain, and that is what I was thinking about when I took this.

Presidential debates are upon us again and, four years later,  feel anxious. I don’t want a repeat of the Bush years.

My grandparents. They were so adorable. They drove that there camper every year from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho down to Mexico. Every year! The always brought home ephemera from their trips (as you can see). This photo was taken camping somewhere in Idaho. Probably at Lake Pend Oreille.

  • In which I lay out a plan for the rest of the year

    October 2, 2012

If you have been reading this blog for the past year you know that I have been attempting to post something everyday. I’ve enjoyed this daily practice of checking in with the blog everyday. However, it’s getting difficult to find things to blog about. In order to help me stay motivated I am going to try to adhere to the following schedule:

Sunday: Hmm. A photo maybe? A post about running? Let’s call it “Random Sunday.”
Monday: Weekend adventures, In which I tell you about the exciting things I have done the past weekend (Weekend for me = Sunday and Monday).
Tuesday: Writing prompt Thursday, in which I spew my guts on the computer screen.
Wednesday: Wayback Wednesday, in which I post an old photo and reminisce about it.
Thursday: The day after my Sangha meeting is always filled with deep thoughts. Let’s use this day for these types of things. Or, if I’m not feeling the deep thoughts, a  Flickr Time Machine post.
Friday: Photography Friday. Sometimes everyday is Photography Friday
Saturday: Six word Saturday, in which I condense my thoughts/day/life down into six words.

Some of it I’ve been doing for awhile, some of it will be fairly new, or at least more structured.

So there we go! All orderly and nice.

Raf and I have decided to, everyday, try at least one new thing. Today we are trying two new things. We are trying a new recipe (vegetarian Mac-n-cheese) AND we checked out Oregon City, a place we have never been.

We started with a walk from the book, Portland City Walks. We hit a snag, though, when the bridge crossing the Willamette was closed. Bummer! we wandered around town and had fun, anyway. We found a fun consignment shop that had loads of old cameras. I was more than tempted to buy one!

When we were ready to head back to the car we discovered that they have a really cool “Municipal Elevator” that gives tired people a lift up to the bluff (where we parked). The photo above is the view from the top. From there we discovered that there was a Willamette Falls and followed the signs to find this:

It was weird walking to this place. It felt like daja-vu. I felt like I had dreamt this before.

    20120930-183154.jpg

I haven’t been feeling well this past week. I have a cold. So I wanted to do something kind of mellow today, yet still get outside. We decided to go to Timberline Lodge and hike the short, 1 mile hike to the Buried Forest Overlook. Unfortunately, we missed the turnoff to it and our walk ended up much longer. To add insult to injury, we had to hike up a sandy hill to get back to Timberline Lodge.

It was an interesting hike, geologically and I got some shots with my Yashica Mat. Here is one that I took, recreated with my iPhone.
