Foolish gibberish

  • AboutI am also known as CraftyMoni elsewhere on the web. I am a Children’s Librarian. I am a photographer. I am a knitter. I am a reader. I am a wannabe poet. I blog. Sometimes I complain. I like to swear. I have a really twisted sense of humor. I think I might be a Zen Buddhist (Still trying to decide). Not a fan of organized religion. I am very liberal and can be vocal about it at times. I’m a daydreamer. Sometimes sassy. I try to be compassionate. I think I’m pretty nice most of the time. You can delve into deeper waters by reading these posts. You can see my photography on my Flickr page. If you like any photos you see there or on this site and would like to buy a print let me know. I would be happy to sell one to you! I blather about library stuff on  Twitter. You will also find me on Google+ and Facebook. Enjoy your visit!

    Shipwreck!

On my run sometime last week I noticed this shipwreck on the beach! It happened the day after a terrible storm we had at night. I didn’t run close enough to it to inspect it, but it was there everyday last week that I went for a run. I think the graffiti is new, however. Gotta love Santa Cruz. Damn artists ;). I was kind of happy that it was still there yesterday when we went for our walk because I wanted to take a picture of it. It’s so strange…I wonder what happened? More specifically, I wonder what happened to the person inside the boat? Here are some more pics:

    Foggy San Francisco Bay

    April 8, 2005

I took this around November of last year on a wonderful hike Raf and I took at McNee Ranch near San Francisco. It was about 2.5 miles straight up to the top of a peak that overlooked the entire Bay Area. I remember feeling really good about myself because I didn’t bitch while hiking up the steep hills. I was actually in shape! As we were hiking up the fog rolled in so I got some shots of the fog. It was really beautiful.

  • Like a little Chili to go with that finger?

    April 8, 2005
Wendy's restaurant at 375 South Churton Street...
    Image via Wikipedia

LOCAL 8 :: KFMB Stations, San Diego, California

Investigators have acknowledged they’ve searched the home of the woman who said she found part of a finger in chili she bought at Wendy’s.

San Jose police say they carried out the seach of the Las Vegas home of Anna Ayala with the help of local authorities. Detectives aren’t saying what they were looking for.

I am filing this under “Locally Flavored.” Can you believe that? Weird things happen in San Jose. Thank God I don’t eat out in fast food restaurants anymore.

I was going to blog about this when it happened about a week ago but got caught up in the Teri Shiavo hallabaloo.

Dude. She found a FINGER in her chili. YUCK! Since they started reporting this on our local nightly news last week I’ve had that creepy-crawly feeling.

So now the Police are thinking that there might be more to the story. Duh. There was a finger in a bowl of chili, Wendi’s can’t locate anyone who works for them that has lost a finger, so of course the police want to know who’s finger it is. I heard on the news that they think it might be the woman’s aunt’s finger. But that’s all I know about it. It gets more and more grusome.

Here’s another pic I took on Good Friday when my dad was in town. A view of Alcatraz from Fisherman’s Wharf.

  • More on my monkey header

    April 7, 2005

Well, I dug out the book that I was talking about, “Big Secrets” by William Poundstone, as promised. According to this book, the monkey image is taken from The Children’s Apperception Test (CAT). Children are supposed to make up a story to go with the picture. The stories that the children make up help the examiner figure out the child’s personality.

There are some really strange images in this book. I was thinking about scanning them in but I am kind of afraid of breaking copyright (I hope that just having the monkey image above isn’t breaking copyright laws..hmmm). All of the images depict animals in human situation. For example, there is a picture of an adult dog with a puppy over it’s “knee”, spanking it. There is a toilet in the background. Another picture depicts a pregnant cat with an apron. All of them are really rather creepy, I think. I wonder what that says about me ;).

So, the idea is that children make up stories that are about themselves. I suppose the child doing this excercise would identify with the child monkey in the picture. The book states, “The picture inspires thinly veiled autobiographical stories of misbehavior and punishment or treachery at the hands of grownups.” So the two monkeys on the couch are talking about the little monkey behind his back. The Monkey speaking to the child is either punishing the child or making a strong point, it depends on how it’s interpreted.

So Mandrake, in light of all of that, it’s interesting that you identified with the adult monkey speaking to the child… I guess I will just leave it at that 🙂
